I felt the same way about CAID. That unless you were *in* with the right people, or you had friends in high places, no one would even notice that you existed. I spent years between 95 and 99 running around doing SCA things, making clothing for people without asking money, arranging for large groups to go together to events, we even made a try at a period encampmet. Our group led events, hosted events, even went all-out at events hosted by OTHER people. For what? None of us ever got recognized by anyone.

Wait, that's not true. After showing up at Estrella back in 1995 as a scottish household (all in the same kilt pattern, with period clothing and a period encampment) we were requested to attend court. By the king of Atenveldt.

People ask why I don't play anymore, and I usually say that it's because of my kids or something, but the fact of the matter is that it's because after busting my hiney over and over, nothing ever came out of it.

That doesn't give those of us with less than ten years under our belts much hope. I had such high hopes for the SCA when I joined. I love so much about the concept of it and the true spirit of it, but it seems to be lost somewhere. But my Barony has been blessed I think in small ways. Lyondemere seems to really inspire people to get involved. I wish I had more time to play, but alas my opera schedule always has me somewhere else for the day of events or meetings.

I also feel awkward when I go to events, especially by myself because people seem to know me, and yet not, so it's hard to have a good time. But I do have a couple good friends in the SCA so it helps. Of course, Mindy and David are gone, so that makes it a little harder...

I needed to vent this

I'm glad you did.

I'm rather in a similar position, not w/SCA, but... so very burnt out. I sympathise.

I may just take you up on that offer. Do understand that I may not get done with the shoot till 10:30 or 11pm based on run time at the show. He's got a soccer game the next day at 11:45 and team party immediately following that at 2pm Saturday. Could you stand me crashing there too if things run late?

As for helping with the woodworking/cabinet stuff, that's not a problem. I'd be happy to assist. After his team party, we'd drive back down and I could help hang them then. Sound reasonable?

Thank you very much sweet lady. I very much appreciate it. I'll be sure to have him bring stuff to draw on and play with. Having the pups to play with is all the better.

Hope you get your schedule worked out for Friday so that your daughter can go hang out at friends house. Really good that she gets to go out to and not just stay home and watch her brother.
Good luck working out your feelings for the SCA.
