I forgot to post this up, but a couple weeks back Joanne's was having a sale on their Dress Forms. I've wanted one for sooo long and it was the cheapest I had seen it and it had free shipping so, yes I got it! lol. I'm really looking forward to working with it. Right now its set up in my room at home with my Hermione Uniform on. It fits my ( Read more... )

The dress form looks great! You're so lucky to have one that fits your measurements! I bought a new one from Spotlight about 3 years ago, going by the lady's recommendations to get a medium. As I was at uni, it took me 6 months to open it and try using it - WAAAAY too big! I had lost some weight, but not enough to make it that un-useable. So I was mucho pissed! And now I'm starting to wonder (3 years later) if they actually gave me a large instead of a medium. But of course it was too late to try and take it back, so now I'm stuck trying to sell it. *sigh* I was given a really old model last year, but she's way to perky for me (I'm very small in the bust) and you can't shift her waist measurements :( Sometimes it's such a pain having a strangely proportioned body ( ... )

I was really happy to find out it fit too. I have a large chest and large hips, but my waist is pretty small so I have an hour glass figure, which works well for the dummy. :)

That sucks about yours! I would offer some advise but I honestly don't have any. I hope you can find some way to recoup at least some of your money.

I'm kinda unsure about the squishy ones. I know they are better, but they cost more and I'm hoping to lose weight so I would have hated to have gotten a squishy one and have it not fit me afterwards. Maybe when I'm a little order and are more finaically stable. :)

I'm sure you'll get tons of use out of your dress form! I also put a bra on mine sometimes - though not always for myself but when I'm making things for other people I've had to add the bra and stuffing ;)

What a coincidence - this must be the time of year for these historical gowns. Your sister is lucky your mom could make that for her. I'm feeling burn-out right now so I'm actually checking LJ. I need a short break from sewing. I'm stressed.

I'm so sorry you feel stressed! Is this your first time making a historic gown? I know my mom and sister didn't do all you're doing like with a corset, just the skirt, shirt and jacket so I guess that's why it didn't take her so long. I think your gown is going to turn out fantastic!

And I hope my dress form is worth it. I tell you I love dressing it up. Its kinda like a MySize Barbie lol. I don't know how much i'll be able use it for something like a corset but I think it will come in handy like for my Belle dress and my Fleur gown. :)
