I was so, so sad when they killed SPOILER. Although Jayne was my favorite character, SPOILER was in a very close second. And it really sucks that this series never caught on, because if it did we could be talking about a competitor worthy of taking on the likes of star trek and battlestar galactica. I loved the series and the movie did everything it needed to, but it always makes me sad when I watch them because there isn't any more.
Fox screwed the pooch with it, plain and simple. Changing the airing order, Friday night death slot...yeah, they didn't know how to promote it. It would probably be the perfect compliment to BSG on Sci Fi right now...if the network had the money to pony up for another series. Couple these two with new episode of Enterprise? Probably would be one of the best rated nights in Skiffy history.
I have a question for you. Was the show Firefly really popular or just a cult hit? Because I see the dvd set advertised everywhere and I had never even heard of it and its always in the top 10 of amazon.com in sales. Just wondering! :)
Cult hit. 100%. It's grown quite a bit from the series through the movie...kinda like the original Star Trek did when it was in syndication. Everyone swears by the series with good reason: there is only one episode I was bored with...and that happened to be the very last one. It's got Buffy-ish humor BSG darkness. Not necessarily a shoot-em-up as opposed to a show about people.
It's on sale regularly for $15-$20. Pick it up, along with the movie, especially for that price.
