Searched for: how much radiation exposes when open microwave

[EPA] Microwave radiation leakage is difficult to detect because you can’t smell or see it. Old or faulty door seals are the most common causes of microwave radiation leakage. Routinely slamming the door, a build-up of dirt, or simple wear and tear of continued use can cause door seals ( Read more... )

People love to be scared and find phantom problems when they haven't enough the real ones or just can't solve the real ones.
I hate this behavioral pattern. Stupid humans! Arrrrrr!!!

hahaha

well it's also like we take a lot for granted so kinda cool to be able to look up stuff and learn the facts instead of just shrugging it off and assuming nothing!

Good information. Although I fully understand the concern people have for the release of microwave energy from a microwave oven, it should be reassuring that there is really very little risk from using a microwave oven. It should be reminded as the article mentions that microwave energy dissipates dramatically and exponentially as one moves away from the oven while it's operating, moving just a couple inches away from the oven reduces the potential release of microwave energy several hundredfold.

I'm also still surprised that so many people think microwave ovens work "radioactively". There's no nuclear power in a microwave oven, no splitting of atoms, no fusion or fission taking place, it's only energy being shot into food that makes the water molecules vibrate and thus create heat by friction, plain and simple. When the oven shuts off the molecules stop moving.

i was curious bc i always wondered about the noise you hear as it runs doesn't stop right when you open the door! i always wondered how it could be the machine could still be ‘waving as the clunky switch popped the door open… so it seems that the noise is the FAN which makes total sense, and I assume then we don't hear the actual microwave gun which presumably is just an invisible light frequency flashlight.. all the same i wasn't sure how dangerous it would be to get dosed at the door each time you opened it. Seems from others it's not as severe as I'd have expected given you can roast and burn food inside the oven when full on.. So still, not sure what risks really exist from opening the door.

But yeah it's not RADIATION like gamma waves LOL!
