Good point, I think I may have to swipe those archetypes as extremely useful benchmarks.

Feel free. I may have to play one or two of them, but they're fairly generic.

Seems to me B is the American Dream, or at least the attempt to achieve it. A is what happens when you don't: the disappointment, disillusionment, resignment to a mediocre life. The highs of B lead directly to the lows of A, and vice versa.
