Theme: 03. Blindfolds
Pairing: Hankyung/Yesung
Title: By The Window
Yesung really hated the hospital or maybe he wouldn’t hate it that much if he was placed in a private room or suite but his family wasn’t that rich to be able to afford such rooms so he was stuck in the ward. The rooms in the ward were only separated by a wooden wall, which wouldn’t reach the ceiling because two rooms had to share one ceiling fan. There is no such thing as door. There is only a curtain to cover the room and if it happens to be windy, then they would have to place the tape at the sides of the curtain to the wooden wall.
The comfort room only has one shower and two toilets that has to be shared with 15 patients in the ward and if luckier, there wouldn’t be that much patients in the ward. Some patients could only urinate or defecate in a bed pan and sometimes in a small bag that’s connected to the intestine or something that Yesung doesn’t exactly know what it’s called since he’s not into the medical field but either way, when something smells bed. It tends to spread to the neighbors or if unlucky, the whole ward. Oh how he hated the smell.
There is no T.V. in the room or in the ward. It’s not like he has a laptop or PSP because he did mention that his family is poor right? So he also couldn’t afford such stuff. Cell phone? Well, he has that but he couldn’t exactly just kept on texting or calling his friends. That would make phone bills expensive. If he’s lucky, a friend would visit him and entertain him for at least a few minutes.
But he is mostly alone in the hospital. His parents couldn’t exactly stay by his side because they have to work. They are poor after all and if his parents won’t work, they wouldn’t be able to get money to pay the doctor and the hospital. The nurses and doctors would only visit in the room for their usual rounds and monitoring and stuff like that. There are some that seem to be nice and friendly but still, they are too busy and unable to spend more time with Yesung.
Overall, Yesung felt bored and lonely in the hospital. For the first three days, he spent most of his time sleeping. But on the 4th day, he found himself wide awake and looking outside the window. He was watching a person from another building across the hospital. The other building was actually still a hospital but it mostly consists of different clinics and the other floors were used as classrooms or practice rooms for medical students. Yesung wondered why he hadn’t noticed this man before. Then he realized that it was probably because the blindfolds in the man’s clinic was folded up unlike the three past days.
The man was obviously a doctor with his white coat and neat hairstyle. He was handsome and had gentle features. He always wore a small smile when a patient enters in his clinic. Sometimes he would frown slightly while writing or reading something. Yesung thought that the doctor was probably dealing with something serious when the frown appears but he also thought that the frown actually looked cute.

“I wonder if I’m becoming paranoid or if this building is haunted or something.” The doctor said while rubbing the back of his neck, which became a bit stiff after all that work.
“Why do you think of that?” His secretary asked. She wasn’t the usual sexy or beautiful secretary. She wasn’t the nerdy kind either. She was just casual, simple and friendly type.
“Because I feel like someone has been watching me for these past few days.”
“Maybe because someone really has been watching you these past few days.” She laughed. The tip of her ballpen was pointing at the window.
The doctor turned his head and found a patient at the other hospital building was staring back at home. He watched at the patient looked at him in surprise before turning his head away and lying down on the bed so he couldn’t be seen by the window anymore. “So he has been watching me for these past few days?”
“I don’t blame you for not noticing him. You’ve been busy. But I do think he must be crushing on you from the way he stares at you looong and haaard.” His secretary teased him and gave him a wink. “I don’t blame him for staring at you either. You’re handsome, doc and I’m sure a lot of your patients agrees with me.”
“I’d think you’re crushing on me too if I didn’t know that you’re actually into girls, Sooyoung.”
“I’d think you would fall for me if you didn’t know that I’m into girls, Doctor Hannie!”

It was Sunday. It was Yesung’s 7th day in the hospital. He was bored and disappointed because the blindfolds were closed and let down so he couldn’t do his usual ‘staring-at-the-doctor’. Then the most unexpected visitor arrived.
“Good morning! I am Doctor Han. Though I am not your doctor, I hope you don’t mind if I check you up?”
Yesung blinked. He can’t believe this is happening to him. “And why would you do that?”
“Because you’ve been checking me out so I think it’s my turn to check you out.”

“Hankyung, you’ve been visiting my patient.” Dr. Choi, who is Yesung’s attending physician, said as he visited Hankyung in the clinic. “The nurses in the station have been gossiping.”
“Really?” Hankyung laughed. “His parents have to work. His friends could only visit him for a short while in the afternoon or at night because they are busy with school so I thought I should offer him some company during the day on lunch hour or somehow after doing an operation and before starting to work in the clinic.”
“I’m sure a lot of patients are more or less lonely in the hospital like Yesung… so why him of all those people?”
“I could ask the same thing. How did you end up with my most annoying and bitchy patient namely Kim Heechul?”
Dr. Choi groaned. “I wonder about that too.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“So what were you and Dr. Choi talking about in your clinic?” Yesung asked when Dr. Han visited him.
“About you.”
“You two were talking behind my back?”
“It can’t be talking behind your back when you’ve actually seen us and technically, we were in front of you though in another building.”
“Haha. Very funny.” Yesung replied sarcastically. “So what were you two really talking?”
“We were both wondering how we seem to end up with each other’s patients.”
“What do you mean?”
“Dr. Choi likes Kim Heechul, who seem to be the most annoying and bitchy patient I ever had. I happen to like one of Dr. Choi’s patients and that would be you.”
THE END
A/N: And this is the story I ended up after having hospital duty in the ward. Hahahahaha!!! Yey!!! Duty is over!!! Although it was tiring, it wasn’t really that busy and the staff nurses were all kind and I liked all of them and unexpectedly, it was fun. I shall miss CDUH-4B station.
