Title: Flashbacks
Chapter 4
Knock, knock, knock. Sungmin opened the door and stared in shock.
“Choi Siwon. What brings you here?” He managed to speak despite the shock he was feeling.
“I’m sorry for the unexpected visit. I wanted to talk.“ Siwon used a gentle tone of his voice. He also had a small smile on his lips.
Sungmin continued to feel the shock. He expected his first meeting with Siwon would be to receive a punch and probably got beaten up for going out with Heechul. “Yeah, sure. Come in. You should have picked a sunny day to visit. Look at you. You’re soaked!” Sungmin handed Siwon a towel and a bathrobe before leading him to the bathroom. “We’ll talk after you get a warm bath. I don’t want you catching a cold during our talk.”
“Thank you.” Siwon said before stepping inside the bathroom.
Sungmin felt anxious as he was waiting for Siwon to finish his bath. He decided to make hot chocolate for the both of them to lessen his anxiety a bit. When he heard the bathroom door open, he called out. “Just go to the living room. I’ll be there in a minute.” He placed the mugs of hot chocolate on a small tray and went to the living room.
Siwon was simply wearing the bathrobe and flipped the pages of a magazine. He put the magazine down when he saw Sungmin enter the living room. He gratefully accepted the mug of hot chocolate. “Thank you.” He smiled at Sungmin. He blew on the hot liquid before taking a sip.
“So…what did you want to talk about?” Sungmin asked as he tightened his hold around the mug. It’s a good thing that his parents left on a date and that his brother decided to stay at a friend’s house for the night so Sungmin had the house all to himself.
“Nothing really.”
If Sungmin was an anime character, he would have fallen off the chair. “You mean to say you visited me, got soaked by rain just to tell me ‘nothing really’.” Sungmin’s eyebrow twitched. “Why don’t you just get angry at me or punch me or something?”
Siwon blinked. “But I’m not angry.” He smiled again.
Sungmin stared at Siwon in shock again. “You’ve got to be kidding me. I cheated with your boyfriend. How can you not be angry with me?” He felt a bit insulted when he heard Siwon laugh. “So now you’re making a fool out of me?”
“I’m sorry.” Siwon stopped himself from laughing. “I‘m glad Heechul found a good guy. I wish you two happiness.” He placed the mug on the table and stood up. “Thank you for the warm bath and hot chocolate.”
“Woah, woah, woah! Wait a minute!” Sungmin stood up as well. “Heechul and I aren’t together anymore. I broke up with him so you two can continue on with your relationship.”
“Heechul won’t be happy with me.”
“How do you know that?”
“Because I can’t make him happy anymore.”
“What exactly do you mean by that?” Sungmin asked. He can’t help but think Siwon as a strange, vague and smiling guy.
“It was nice meeting you. I should really get going.” Siwon went back to the bathroom to change his clothes although it wasn't exactly dry yet. He started walking towards the door, only to be blocked by Sungmin.
“I really don’t understand you.” Sungmin sighed, knowing that Siwon probably won’t explain anything to him clearly. “But anyway, it’s still raining outside so take this umbrella with you.” He handed a pink umbrella to Siwon.
“Thank you. You really are too kind.”
“Speak for yourself. You’re too kind for your own good. You didn’t even get angry at me.”
“Like I said, you weren’t cheating.” Siwon showed a strange smile before going out under the rain with the umbrella. A smile that said ‘I know something that you don’t’. “Oh, I almost forgot something.” He threw something at Sungmin.
Sungmin caught it with his hand. He opened his closed fist and revealed a locket.

It was raining hard but Heechul didn’t give up looking for his locket. He was walking on the bridge when the lock of his locket suddenly snapped and broke. The locket fell on the bridge but the floor was slippery because of the rain so it slid and fell at the river.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m looking for my locket.” Heechul replied as he looked up to see who he was talking to. He stared in shock as he saw Siwon standing beside the river with a bright pink umbrella. “Siwon, is that you?”
“Why don’t you come here and get a closer look?”
And that’s exactly what Heechul did. He temporarily forgot about the locket as he approached Siwon. He poked on Siwon’s chest once…twice…”You’re back!!!” He exclaimed and hugged his boyfriend.
“You shouldn’t be standing under the rain too long. You might get sick.” Siwon said in a concern manner. “Let me walk you home.”
“But I need to find the locket.”
“Didn’t you lost it months ago?”
“Yeah but someone found it and returned it back to me.”
“You mean Sungmin?”
“Yeah…wait a minute…you know him?” That’s when Heechul realized that Siwon probably knows that he cheated with Sungmin. “Um…about Sungmin…”
“He’s a nice guy. He let me borrow this umbrella so I wouldn’t get wet.”
Heechul took a good look at the umbrella and laughed. “It’s pink. He so obviously owns it.”
They walked towards Heechul’s house in comfortable silence. They shared the umbrella and linked their arms together. Siwon managed to convince Heechul to stop looking for the locket because Heechul’s health is more important. Once they arrived at Heechul’s house, Heechul invited Siwon in.
“It’s still the way I remember.” Siwon said as he took a good look around Heechul’s house. “Heebum, nice to see you again.” He patted the cat on the head. “Does Heebum like Sungmin?”
Heechul tensed again as Sungmin’s name was mentioned. “Sungmin actually prefers dogs so he was quite surprise that he gets along pretty well with Heebum.”
“I’m glad that it’s Sungmin and not some other guy.”
“Huh?” Heechul was confused but he didn’t mind receiving Siwon’s hug.
“I wish you two happiness.” Siwon whispered against Heechul’s ear before releasing Heechul from the hug. “I need to go somewhere else. You need to change your wet clothes too.”
“Oh, right. Achoo!!!” Heechul sneezed.
“Hurry up and change before you’ll get really sick.” Siwon said as he moved towards the door while Heechul started to walk towards his room. “Oh, I almost forgot. Can you give this back to Sungmin?” Siwon said as he placed the pink umbrella against the wall. “One more thing, you’re not a cheater.” Siwon looked at Heechul and smiled before leaving the house.
Heechul could tell the Siwon knew so he was left feeling confuse when Siwon said he was not a cheater. On the other hand, he felt less guilty than before.

Heechul didn’t understand why Eeteuk wanted to meet up with him in front of a cemetery. It’s noon but it was quite cloudy. It even looked like it’s going to rain so he brought an umbrella. He didn’t like the atmosphere. He didn’t like being alone in such a place. He was starting to feel chilly and nervous.
“BOO!!!”
“WAAAAAAH!!!!” Heechul screamed like a girl and hit the guy with his umbrella.
“Hahahaha! Ow!”
“Sungmin!!! You scared me to death! I might end up buried in the cemetery thanks to you!!!”
“You hit like a girl.” Sungmin teased.
“Oh yeah? Come here and let me punch you.”
“Bleh!” Sungmin stuck his tongue out and dodged when he saw a fist coming. He saw another fist coming by. He caught it and pulled Heechul closer to him. “Long time no see, miss me?” They didn’t have any contact with each other since they broke up. It’s been quite a while.
“Ahem.” Eeteuk coughed and interrupted them. “It’s good to see that you two made up.”
“We didn’t.” Heechul stepped away from Sungmin.
“Oh. Well, anyway there’s something I need to tell you both. Follow me.” Eeteuk walked inside the cemetery.
Heechul and Sungmin looked at each other for a moment and instantly knew that they both don’t have any idea why Eeteuk brought them here or what Eeteuk is going to tell them. They followed Eeteuk until they stopped before a tombstone. The named engraved on the stone was Choi Siwon.
“Eeteuk, what’s the meaning of this?” Heechul asked angrily. “This kind of prank is not funny!!!”
Eeteuk took a deep breath before staring to explain. “Siwon wanted to keep this a secret but I couldn’t hide it from the both of you anymore. It’s because of Siwon that you two aren’t getting along. He didn’t go to America as an exchange student. He went to America for an operation and rehabilitation. He didn’t want anyone to know about his cancer but he decided to tell me so I could take care of Heechul. He said that I should hook you up with some other guys. He emphasized to make sure Heechul would have a good guy to make him happy. But I couldn’t do that knowing how much you love Siwon. Then Sungmin came along and I could see that you’re interested in him so I encouraged you to cheat. It’s not exactly called cheating though because Siwon died the day before you met Sungmin.”
“I found the locket the day before I met Heechul.” Sungmin said as he pulled out the locket from his pocket. “And how could Siwon be dead? I just met him yesterday and he even asked me to return this locket to Heechul.”
“I could say the same thing. I met Siwon yesterday too and he asked me to return Sungmin’s pink umbrella.” Heechul said as he pulled out a pink folded umbrella from his backpack.
“Then it was probably Siwon’s ghost who set the two of you up. I’m sure he wanted the two of you to be together.” Eeteuk said. He could see how his friends seem to be in shock and in deep thoughts. “I’ll leave the two of you to talk about it.”
As soon as they couldn’t hear Eeteuk’s footsteps, Heechul decided to speak. “It’s strange but it actually makes sense that Siwon’s ghost probably set us up. No wonder he insisted that I wasn’t cheating on him. He’s dead all along.” Reality started to sink in as tears rolled down on Heechul’s cheeks. “I wasn’t even able to say goodbye to him properly.”
Sungmin placed an arm around Heechul. He didn’t mind that his shirt was getting soaked by Heechul’s tears. When Heechul calmed down, they prayed together for Siwon’s soul.
// Siwon, you’ve been such a great influence to me. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it weren’t for you. I’ll never forget you. I’ll be happy with Sungmin here. You approve of him, right? I hope you’re happy wherever you are right now. You’ve been so religious so I’m assuming you’re up in heaven already. //
// Siwon, if you didn’t die, there’s no way you’ll probably give up Heechul on me, would you? But I’m glad that you allowed me to continue this relationship with Heechul. In the next lifetime, we’ll probably going to be rivals for Heechul’s love. But for this lifetime, I promise I’ll take care of Heechul and love him eternally. //
After they left the cemetery, Sungmin returned the locket to Heechul. “Here. You should take good care of it from now on. Siwon’s ghost probably won’t help looking for it the next time it’ll get lost.”
“Yeah, sure.” Heechul took a good look at the locket. “That’s strange. It seems thicker.” He opened the locket. “Sungmin, are you sure that Siwon gave this locket to you?”
“Yeah.”
“You didn’t do anything to change the locket?”
“No. Why? Is there something wrong with the locket?”
Heechul handed the locket to Sungmin. Sungmin was surprise to see that the locket actually had three folds. He saw the same picture of Siwon and Heechul in it. Then at the extra fold was Sungmin’s picture.
“You know what I think?” Heechul asked.
“What?”
“If Siwon was alive, we’ll probably be a threesome right now.”
Sungmin laughed. “Maybe in the next lifetime.” He closed the locket and placed it around Heechul’s neck.
