Theme: 20. Glow
Pairing: Kibum/Donghae

In memory of merashun , a loving? friend, ex-class president and allergic to perfume... BWAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
Anyway, this fic is dedicated to her~ my seatmate in most classes~

Sixteen-year-old Kibum doesn’t like kids, so he really wondered why he ended up having a part time job in a Child Day Care Center. His job mostly consisted of smiling and talking to the parents who would leave their children in the center so that they’d think he was friendly and trustworthy. Then he would mostly stay in the kitchen to prepare snacks or lunch for the kids. If he had nothing else to do, then he would simply sit and read a book.

“Kibum, we lack one more player for soccer,” Sungmin said as he entered the kitchen. “Come on and play with us.” He ignored Kibum’s protests and complaints as he dragged Kibum to the playground.

Kibum noticed that there was one kid sitting on the bench with his head low, swinging his legs back and forth. “Why don’t you let him play instead?” Kibum said as he pointed towards the kid.

Sungmin looked at the kid. “Ah, that’s Donghae. The kids don’t like to play with him.”

“Why not?”

“Because he’s obsessed with aliens and talks about them all the time. He’s also clumsy, gets injured a lot and cries easily. I wish I could do something for him but as you can see there are a lot of kids here with only a few caretakers, and not to mention, someone wouldn’t even interact with kids.” Sungmin was eyeing Kibum.

“I got to talk to Donghae once. He really is obsessed with aliens. The others kids also wouldn’t come near me for quite some time because they thought Donghae had influenced me. I had to convince them that Donghae wasn‘t able to influence me and that I don‘t believe in aliens.” Shindong, one of the caretakers in the daycare center, said as he approached Sungmin and Kibum.

“But Kibum doesn’t interact with kids, so if he interacts with Donghae then it’ll be alright! Kibum, from now on, Donghae shall be under your care.” Sungmin announced.

“Woah! Wait a minute! Didn’t you drag me here to play soccer?” Kibum looked a bit horrified because he really didn’t want to have anything to do with kids, and definitely not with a strange kid.

“Well, I could always just ask Ryeowook to play instead even if he has zero athlete abilities. Now, run along and entertain Donghae.” Sungmin gave Kibum a slight push.

“Geez, he should have just asked Ryeowook to play soccer in the first place instead of me.” Kibum mumbled as he went on his way to approach the kid name Donghae.

Donghae lifted his head to see the owner of the shadow in front of him. His eyes were red and puffy. He had probably been crying earlier. “Is my mom here to fetch me already?”

“No.”

“Oh…” Donghae lowered his head again. “So why are you still here? I’m sure you’re not here to play with me. Everyone is annoyed with me or thinks that I’m weird.”

That was true. Kibum wasn’t here to play so he tried to think of another thing to do. “I’m going to make munchkins for snacks. I need some assistance.”

Donghae looked at him again. “But I don’t know how to make munchkins.”

“That’s okay. I’ll teach you.” Kibum extended a hand to Donghae. “Let’s go to the kitchen.”

Donghae looked at the offered hand in front of him. He hesitantly placed his own hand on it and let himself be lead to the kitchen. “Um … hyung? … why me?”

“Because you’re the only one who seems available at the moment.”

“Oh…”

Kibum instructed and taught Donghae what to do before they proceeded to do their own stuff. They spent the time in silence as they concentrated on making munchkins. However, Kibum noticed the smile on Donghae’s face. The kid was obviously enjoying making munchkins.

After making the munchkins and serving it to the other children, Kibum returned to the kitchen to see Donghae happily eating his own share of munchkins. “You eat quite messily,” Kibum said as he took his handkerchief to wipe Donghae’s cheek and the sides of his mouth.

Donghae simply smiled as he let Kibum wipe him clean. He offered a munchkin to Kibum, who took it with his mouth. Then, a few minutes later, Donghae was fetched by his mother. Kibum was surprised to get a hug from Donghae. “Thank you, hyung! I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Kibum waved goodbye to the kid. “You seem to be getting along with the kid,” Sungmin said as he stood beside Kibum.

“Well, he wasn’t being annoying today,” was Kibum’s reply.

The next day, Donghae went to the kitchen as soon as he arrived in the daycare center. “Hyung, do you need help in making munchkins again.”

“No.” Kibum saw how Donghae’s face fell. “But I need help in making donuts today.” He immediately saw Donghae smiling once again. “Wash your hands first.”

Kibum wasn’t alone in the kitchen anymore because Donghae would always spend time with him in the kitchen, but he really didn’t mind Donghae’s presence. He was waiting for the day that Donghae would finally show off his true colors and that he would get annoyed at the kid and kick him out of the kitchen, but that day never came.

“Donghae, you like aliens, right?” Kibum started a conversation which he had never done before. They always spent their time in silence but he was quite curious about Donghae’s weirdness because everybody said that the kid was just weird and so into aliens, and he haven’t witnessed Donghae’s weird side yet.

Donghae had a happy look on his face. His mouth opened to reply but then he suddenly shut his mouth and the happy look on his face was gone. “No…”

Kibum blinked. He expected that the kid would finally become talkative and rant about aliens. “Really?”

Donghae bit his lip and didn’t reply. He made himself look like he was too busy in mixing the ingredients.

“Donghae, it’s bad to lie.”

The kid paused from mixing the ingredients. “But I don’t want you to stop liking me.”

“What?”

“If I say that I like aliens, then you’ll be like the rest of the caretakers and other kids who would think that I’m weird and wouldn’t want to spend time with me.” Donghae became teary eyed. “I like aliens, but I like you more. Please don’t hate me.”

Kibum looked a bit panic-stricken. He didn’t know how to comfort a crying child. He knew that Donghae’s birthday was just a few days away but seeing how the child was crying too hard, he decided to give the gift today. “I’m not going to hate you, okay? Please stop crying.” He took Donghae’s hand and placed something on it.

Tears were still falling, but Donghae finally managed to calm himself after hearing Kibum’s words. He opened his hand to see what Kibum had given him. A small glow in the dark alien key chain. “You really won’t hate me for liking aliens?” Donghae asked as he looked at the thing in his hand.

“No, but you have to try to change your attitude on talking about aliens all the time. If other people don’t believe in aliens, you should just respect their decision and don’t force them to believe that aliens exist. Keep that in mind and try to gain more friends, okay?” Kibum wiped Donghae’s tear-streaked cheeks.

“Okay, thank you.” Donghae kissed Kibum on the cheek and hugged him. It was the first time that Kibum received a kiss from a kid, but it was definitely a nice feeling.

THE END!!!!!!!!

A/N: The plot that I have in mind is definitely way different from this one. I’m thinking on making a sequel with the plot that I actually have in mind but I’m not going to promise or anything because life is busy. I might just get too tired and forget about it.
