Cosplayers, read this. Although the person complaining is from the US, his/her complaints are VERY similar to whatever kind of drama we have here in the Philippines. Just goes to show that cosplay drama is universal, huh

There's something about cosplay that completely sucks out any sense of Earth logic in your system. I think it has something to do with the fact that you become some sort of a celebrity when you're popular enough. Fame DOES make assholes of us all. :D
And they wonder why attention whores gravitate towards cosplay. Heh.
Personally, this is why it's my policy not to join any contests when I cosplay. When I do join one it's because I've been persuaded to do so. Otherwise, I'm just contented to wear my costume and stand on the sidelines. Less drama that way.
Well, I think each and one of us are somewhat guilty on some of the points raised there. I mean, cosplay does attract a certain sense of elitism amongst groups, so I think it's pretty given when people go, "How dare she cosplay this character when she's so fugly!" Or, "HAHAH LOOK AT WHAT HE DID WITH HIS COSTUME!!!1111!!" There's also the fact that when a newbie, for example, dares to criticise a veteran, 99% of the time the newbie would get roasted. Even if the person isn't a newbie and has been cosplaying for a while, criticising a veteran who has more awards is a no-no or else the veteran's goons would flay the critic alive. (I can think of one specific cosplayer right now, though I don't really have the intention of saying the cosplayer's name out loud. Not when I know the cosplayer's minions constantly search for any website that dare besmirch the cosplayer's name. :D

Oh, so true. I hate it when people turn it into a beauty pageant. Bleargh. XP
I guess you're right, I am somewhat guilty of being elitist in that sort of thing (I check out who cosplays Sailormoon characters since I was one of the first-ever Sailormoon
Oh, correct me if I'm wrong, but somehow I'm also getting these "This character/costume is cool, so I'll cosplay him/her" vibes. Nothing inherently wrong with that, but for me cosplaying is about acting as the character that you know and love. It's a geek hobby after all. I think what rubs me the wrong way about that "I'm cosplaying this character because of the kick-ass costume" point of view is a lot of people who think this way seem to think that looking cool and hot is what cosplay is about. Their philosophy seems to be: "Never mind the characterisations. I'm here to look cool!" you know? ~_

Oh, I just got this new record. I forgot the title, but it's so hilarious when I play it because they chase each other around and one of them would trip and fall over. :D
