Now that my grandfather has passed away, my grandmother has been moved into a home for people with degenerative memory. She loves it there and they love her. She couldn't live on her own and this is a place where she is able to have her own room with her own furniture and own things, and we can all visit her. It's as much of a Win/Win as you can

Jars of buttons = want.

Lots of places you can donate to will come and pick up, depending on the house's location.

But I know what you mean about too much useful stuff. My parents have at least 14 full or nearly full sets of dishes. Not to mention the books, art, pottery, etc. I am an only child. They are aging. I am going to be in need of some trustworthy auctioneers.

To be honest most of the organized (and much of it was) stuff got into a donation box somewhere. It is either going to be donated to an organization that works with the mentally disabled so they can do arts and crafts or it is going to my grandparent's church so they can have a rummage sale and the proceeds will go to the church.

The parts that got thrown away were the partial pattern pieces, one off buttons in a shoe box full of other random parts, little scraps of things that would need to be sorted. Big jars of buttons got into the "to a good home pile" and old elastic got into the trash bag. My grandma has a lot of partial bottles of craft paint which are 99 cents at a store for a full bottle. To sort and transport a 1/4 of a bottle of mostly dried up paint wouldn't be worth much to anyone. Things that wouldn't be worth the drive to their house is going to have to go, but the rest is going to a good home.

You found a stanhope! That's what the little pictures inside of objects like that knife are called. techdragon can tell you LOTS more about them.

Not quite, it isn't a magnification, it's just a little naked picture on the knife. Except it's not on the surface, there is a space carved into the side of the knife where the picture is inlaid and then there is glass (or plastic) on top to seal it in. There are two different pictures, one on each side.

My mom has a charm bracelette that has a stanhope charm so I do know what you're talking about. That would have been even cooler, but not quite.
