From the little reaction I've seen on my flist, I think I may be alone in this, but I really enjoyed this. At last, a Mark Gatiss Doctor Who episode that I like!
I wouldn't go that far. I can NEVER forgive him for having Dickens exclaim "What the Shakespeare" - a stupidly pointless thing to do since "What the dickens" as a saying pre-dated Charlie by a LONG way.
But, that was a half-way decent story - which is a first as far as I'm concerned!
You're not alone - I loved it too. I was a little bit "ugh it's Alien on a sub" but then he directly made a nod to Alien so I was ok with that and the rest of it was excellent. But then Mark Gatiss is so steeped in horror lore that I'd be worried if he got it wrong :)
I was out yesterday evening so I've just watched it - obviously this season's bottle episode, but pretty good of its type. I was about right to guess that this one would be "The Hunt for Red October with Ice Warriors" which is nice, and for once the most villainous human got what he deserved without the alien judging the rest of the human race by his behaviour - eventually.
You'd think that the Martians could offer them a lift though!
