sorry. spoilers... Oh EXCELLENT. I've just read this too... now I read like 4-5 books a week... with that said I've forgotten why Dresden _____ himself in Changes. Was it just to outwit _______? Is that what he was saying in Ghost Story? I am considering re-reading Changes but I bought it twice and gave it to two sisters in 500 mile opposite directions from me and I just don't want to buy it a 3rd time. I had considered hunting down a wiki... but then, I suspect, I would be compelled to re-read the whole series and it just isn't THAT AWESOME and again, sisters, 500 miles away... have the books...
Okay, I tracked down the blackout code for spoilers - highlight to read!
Outwit Mab? Perhaps. But I think it was more because he thought he'd crossed a line and he didn't trust himself to make the right decisions anymore. Dresden always feared his darkside and a certain fallen angel used this fear to push him towards suicide at the right moment, thus impinging on his free will!.
ETA: And the blackout code doesn't work with my layout! Oh noes! Ah well, I've already warned for spoilers in the post...
I think you have a good point about this book being very much about stopping, taking stock, and focusing on the character side rather than the epic-battle side of things
( ... )
I'm still annoyed with Thomas for being Emo Gloom Boy for six months (!!) while everyone else is trying to put Chicago back together, though.
I've read in passing that the novelette Aftermath explains a few things in Ghost Story - It's set right after Changes and it's part of the sidejobs short story compilation. Hopefully it'll explain Thomas's emo issues...and I guess I know what book I'll be buying next :-P
