Apparently, the print version of Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray has also been deranked, although the kindle version has been left alone.

I'm confused. How do you tell when something has been deranked? When I search Orlando or Virginia Wolf, the book comes up in the results.

I got my info about Orlando from the LA Times, and not first hand, so I couldn't tell you! Here's the link

I think I'll add to my post actually

Amazon seem to be working at the moment to fix the 'glitch', and having the cover of the book plastered all over the LA times may have put a fire under their collective ar$es to get it fixed!

I have scythe, axe and swords to go with your pitchfork and can promise at least a dozen bodies for mob should you find said castle.

Oh this has just gotten completely out of hand!

How can they just go about de-ranking books like this? How will people ever find these books if they essentially remove them from the most searched listing they have - the bestsellers?

UGH.

UGH, indeed!

Amazon is not helping. When I went up to the site to cancel my account (which still isn't cancelled, dammit) they eventually came back with a claim that it was 'just a glitch' in their canned customer service letter.

However, a recent entry here brings up the very real possibility that someone exploited their badly thought application of a new policy on adult content. The link on the Brutal Honesty community may be real, or idle boasting; the guy who posts it is really full of himself--

Amazon hacked?

Perhaps, but from the comments below the post, it seems the consensus is: it's possible to do this, but not by the technique described in weev's post - therefore he's likely a troll.

Yes, probably. After all, confessing to this would lay the idiot open to major charges, one would like to believe.
