I'm working on some icons for Crossroad Blues and my skillz are far from mad. Most of all, I never like my text. So I have:

Using more layers will make the text easier to read. So far as font goes, take a look at DaFont and see if anything strikes your fancy. 'Leichenhaus' or 'Isabella' might be worth looking into.
