Ignore that article. There has been much fan disscussion about it and the conclusion is that it's mostly guff. It completely contradicts interviews he's given even in the last few days. It reads negativity into Whedon's words that were not intended to be taken as the end of the line (particularly as he often talks about Firefly as a TV show in a different way as he does about what it has become.)

In pretty much all interviews at the moment he's talking about how he will do something new with the universe if the chance arises and the dvd sales will largely determine that chance.

Good job the dvd is the amazon number 1 seller at the moment (which for the week before christmas means lots and lots of sales) with the tv series (now a 2/3 year old dvd set) at number 6.

All that matters is box office + DVD sales figures. Sell enough and there will be a line of people willing to throw money at Joss for more movies or TV or spinoffs or toy licenses or whatever.

I say that from a totally generic perspective, having never seen Firefly or anything else Joss made.

All right, now I have to jump in and set the record straight. EW is a fine rag, but they do take things out of context. Obviously when I said I had 'closure', what I meant was "I hate Serenity, I hated Firefly, I think my fans are stupid and Nathan Fillion smells like turnips." But EW's always got to put some weird negative spin on it. But so we're clear once and for all: If you read a quote saying "I'd love to do more in this 'verse with these actors in any medium" all I'm saying is that Nathan has a turnipy odor.
