The (Mostly Unfinished) State of Things

Unemployment: Week one.Seven days down and what have I accomplished? Not so much. Shocking, I know. I've cleaned a bit and slept a lot. It took exactly one night before I reverted to my natural 4AM bedtime. And I probably have the most organized iTunes library of anyone you know.I did work on that.  I was going to spend Friday actually applying ( Read more... )

Oh God, Glee. Such suckage in that finale. It's getting to the point of Heroes, where I'm like, "Why am I watching this?!"

The resume and cover letter stuff will be a help. I need to finish that myself for the fall so I'm all ready to go. Ditto looking ahead for book contests and fellowships and whatnot. Ugh. So soul-crushing.

I plan on lots of video games this summer, lol. But also, I've got Netflix, so I catch up on shows I've missed out on (The Good Wife is supposed to be awesome; I just started watching Samurai Champloo, which is cool).

I feel conflicted, because everyone else is already in full on Hate! mode, but I still like the show. Because I only started watching a bit over a month ago? I don't know. I also prefer season 2 to season 1. Maybe I'm still in the Honeymoon phase. But that finale was hot garbage. That we can all agree on.
My next step is working on a portfolio -- both print and online. I have all of the files arranged for the physical one, I just have no ink in the printer. And I have a pretty good, fully-functional version of an online one sitting completely intact on my hard drive. I just need an actual web space in which to put it up. Perhaps I should change the name on my business cards to Half-Done Designs. truth in advertising!
I have gotten two Mentalists further than when I posted this entry. Watching tv on the laptop is not good. I am constantly pausing to go look at other things. I gotta get a job so I can buy a TV. And, you know, make mortgage and utility payments.

See what happens when you don't even log into LJ for 6 days? You miss TWO K posts. I'd say that this would make me pay more attention in the future, but when I'm trying to stream live concerts, extra windows and open applications = more slowness, and LJ is simply non-essential. So I promise nothing ( ... )

Unemployment has made me one prolific LJ'er it seems. Must be all of that spare time. Of course almost everyone has left, so that sucks. I lurk around over in the twittervese, but let's be honest... I have a hard enough time paring these posts down.. can you see me trying to get anything said in 140 or less? The word "impossible" comes to mind. It took me a minute to get that whole "tonight's wine and ___" thing. I know it's Phish related. I assume they are on tour and you are listening and drinking. And they recently played "No Quarter". That I can appreciate.
Having no job is alright so far. It's only been 2 weeks and I made sure to catch up all of the bills ahead of time. I am used to being poor, so it's not like I am missing all of the fabulous things I used to buy, because they do not exist. The next step is Filing for unemployment. At least that way I can make the mortgage payment until I find an actual job. Until then I will be here complaining about the heat and honing my madd facebook Tetris Battle skills. I am a level 25!

LOL, the 140 character part is definitely the hardest facet of it all, but that's only 20 less than my text messages allow, and I've gotten pretty good at those, since I'm not willing to pay for two texts when I can just send one. So miserly living has prepared me for twitter, I suppose.

Heh, my lame "wine and Phish pairing" thing is probably only amusing to a dork like me, since I've actually chosen to drink wines that would go well with seafood, so far--but I'm going to keep at it, provided I don't have to work the following morning. AND YES! They dropped into No Quarter last night for the first time ever, and it was unbelievable. Too bad the rest of the show after that happened was kinda 'meh.' But at that moment, it was unreal--I was like, are they just teasing this song, with the piano parts? Because that's something they'll do, and have done with Zeppelin, before. But then the guitar came in, and I went a little crazy ...sitting in front of my computer on ustream. I regret nothing. Well, other than the remainder of ( ... )
