Um, I watch True Blood. It's okay. I kind of have a strange relationship with that show. Like, I think it's kind of ridiculous a lot of the time, and I sorta hated it at first, but I got more into it during the second season. IDK. I like it, but I also dislike it at the same time. Something about it grosses me out. But I think you'd sorta like it. Maybe.
YES I DO! Remember when I told you I started watching two new shows and they were both reality shows? That was one. (The other was RuPaul's Drag Race. It's over now too.) What can I say? I just kept hearing about it, and then decided on a whim to just watch a promo to see what it was about. By the time it was over I was like, "This looks so ridiculous, I can't not at last watch the first episode!!!" I watched the entire season in three days (stupid work getting in the way!). Everyone thought I was joking when I said I was watching it. I was dead serious. Oh, it's ridiculous, I know this. But I kind of love The Situation it. And I can't even say "I'm too old for this", because a few of the guys on there are just about as old as I am. It got so bad, I was at an art festival and heard something that sounded like club-type music and all I could think of was "fist pump!" which is a reference you will not get, but it makes me laugh. Of course it's no John and Kate Plus 8, but what do I know? I think I am going to watch the the True Blood

... LOL. I find your love(?) for this show kind of endearing.
Of course it's no John and Kate Plus 8, but what do I know?
Hey! My guilty pleasure is about adorable little children, yours is about a bunch of skanky, drunken guidos. You have to admit yours is trashier. I did used to watch The Hills, though, so I'm not all that morally superior.
I'll take "endearing" over any other reaction I've gotten thus far! Thanks! Kids annoy me (so do both John and Kate!), so I can't give a pass for "adorable little children". On the other hand, I have always been entertained by people acting silly for my amusement. (Isn't the Hills the same thing, only with rich people? I think I know who some of them are. Haven't they reached the point where they not only take themselves way too seriously, but their show is pretty much scripted? I only know the most basic information about it. The only thing I am sure of is that they are rich kids.) Like I said, if I thought they were serious, I'd probably be disgusted. But I think they know they are silly, so I give them a pass. Plus, I like to pretend that I get a pass, since most everything I watch is relatively respectable. I figure that for every episode of Mad Men, I should be allowed one Jersey Shore. They will average out to be something like... I don't know. The Mentalist? That metaphor or whatever would have probably been helped by my

The thing I don't get about True Blood is this (it should be noted that I have never seen this show, except for a single clip, once): If you were a vampire, would you really go around sleeping with everyone instead of eating them?
Notice how I'm glossing right past the thing with idiots and fake names. It does look hysterical, though. Except for the clip I've seen 150 times, where that chick gets cold-cocked in a bar. That one was just disturbing.
And don't even get me started on Twilight. Because I am weak-willed, I have recently started watching those You Tube videos of the British guy reading/mocking the first book. While it's hilarious, I am not pleased that I pretty much know the plot, and many of the characters, now. However, I've heard enough to know this: the fact that Twilight was ever even published is an affront to the entirety of human literature. And the fact that people actually like the story makes me fear for mankind

Twilight! I don't know what prompted my mother to read this mess, but I looked up a few weeks ago, and there it was. I mocked her. Then there were movies. More mockery. Then more books. I noticed a pattern and was rightfully disturbed. I am not a fan. I kept telling her not to become one of "those ladies" who is all "OMG!! TWILIGHT!!!" because that is embarrassing. I have only read summaries and I feel as if I know too much. I told her that the first time I hear/see any mention of Team Edward/Jacob, there will be a battle. I mock anyone I see reading these things, and I will not make exceptions for someone just because they gave birth to me. I will give her this though, she fully admits that they are ludicrous excuses for "literature". But, in the light of the fact that she (nor my sister) has read 1984, Animal Farm or Brave New World, their standing as readers remains suspect. As I told cookie, I am gonna check out the True Blood pilot in just a few minutes. I used to like things with Vampires in it, but that was mainly based on Anne

See, that Hitler clip has been used for everything, and I think it loses its funny after the first time. For me, there was a clip where he was speculating on the album that Phish was going to cover for their costume set, last Halloween. He was arguing for The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, and went nuts when he considered them covering the MGMT album. This was made even more funny by the fact that I found myself in lockstep with Hitler. I was then forced to reflect, some.
Phish wound up covering Exile On Main St., which is the absolute best thing they could've done. And now I have to remind myself to pick up that re-release, on Tuesday.
This comment featured much rambling and not much substance. We are happy to have helped.
ETA: Oh! I don't watch Survivor since the first season, but I do like this Russell guy. I know that he's an asshole, but I like that he's upfront about it. And that it's part of his strategy. This makes me root for him, even though everyone always tells me how terrible he is
( ... )
I know there are like 6 million of those Hitler clips, but the only ones I genuinely laugh at are that one and the one about the Half-Blood Prince. I tried to watch a few other ones a while back, but I didn't get them. There was even one about the actual Hitler clips, and that was too much "a reflection of a guy holding a mirror in a mirror in a mirror" or something. A meme within a meme? Too much! I am also reminded that I need to listen to more Bowie. It also relates, because just a few months ago, I went through a phase where I decided I needed to listen to more of the Stones. In both cases I just know the big hits. I think I should know more. Russell is something of a puzzle. As Alice said below, his gameplay is respectable. He, for the most part, gets everyone to to whatever he wants. All the time. Even when it is in NO ONE'S best interest except Russell's. On one hand, I applaud that level of manipulation. He has pulled some brilliant moves out of thin air. On the other hand, he's just way too much of a jerk. He (secretly)

As you can deduce from my icon (and others like it), I heart True Blood. I CANNOT WAIT for its return. You have to sort of understand the tone of it, which, like any other Alan Ball show, can be pretty wacky, but TB also has a dose of the gothic. It's grotesque, it's funny, it's hot, sad, dramatic, and really pretty. I predict addiction.
Who you rooting for on Survivor? I'll be happy if it's anyone but Russel, though ultimately I'd prefer Parvati or Sandra.
I have the pilot loaded up to watch as soon as I finish this comment. I think my sister owns the DVDs, so if it's good, I plan on just running by her place and picking them up. With everything I watch ending in the next 8 days, I should have ample time to catch up on the show before it starts. I have tried not to read too much about it, so I know only the most basic things. What is funny is that the books that the show is based on are somewhere on my giant list of books to read one day. I just hope that this does to follow the same pattern as the last cable show based on a book series, featuring people involved with Six Feet Under, I meat to eventually read. (Sorry, Dexter! I tried to care, but you lost me somewhere in season two!) I do know that, even if they aren't enemies, the guy in your icon seems much cooler than that brown-haired guy. Bill? You know, now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever known the blonde's name. (I do know that he is "Askars" though. Thanks ONTD!) He seems badass though. So, if they are enemies, I

I was also rooting for Boston Rob, but...there ya go. It's weird; I never liked Parvati either, and I know a lot of people don't, but she IS smart. If she JUST flirted and that was her only thing, I would hate her. But she's made a few really smart moves and does well at challenges. Russel does play the game well, which I could respect him for, but he's such a misogynist I can't bear it. If it was all strategy that would be one thing; but you can see when he's upset, the kind of crap he says I think is genuine meanness and he's such a douche.
The blonde vamp, Eric, is definitely way cooler than Bill. ;) Though Eric doesn't show up for a bit and gets way cooler in season 2. I've read the first three books; they're fun reading. The TV show is definitely it's own thing, though.
Sandra was before I started watching, so I know she has already won it before. I had no real opinion of her until last week, when she actually started doing things. This season was full of all-stars who either hung around too long and did nothing or whose reputations were so big that they got eliminated before they could do anything. It was a weird mix, and made for a sometimes uneven season. Sometimes I questioned people's placements on their specific teams, but that could just be because some of the "good guys" really grate on my nerves -- I'm looking at you, Cirie and Candace! It really did pick up towards the end though. I don't even remember why I originally hated Parvati, but I know I did. I think she got branded with the Flirt tag early on, and that just ruined her for me. When she came back a second time, and actually won, I was outraged. Looking back at it, the first time she was on was the crazy "let's divide the teams by races!" thing. That was my mom's first season watching. That means she's been on three times in a
