[3.1] Great and Terrible Heroes Review: The Second Coming

Sep 28, 2008 18:34

So, here we are again. I figured that since I watched, I might as well talk about it. But, I'm not gonna talk about all of it. There's too many people and not enough time for all of that. Besides, what's so interesting about things that are just “okay”. It’s only when you really love or hate something that things get good, am I right? As such, this ( Read more... )

Really, how much time has passed since this and that last episode? That is a crucial piece of information.

Well, on the DVD extras, Sendhil says that it's been three days for him and Maya. Then in the commentary for this episode, Allan Arkush mentioned that it's been about a week since Powerless. BUT! The Nathan/Peter/Matt/Sylar/Claire stuff all happen right after Powerless. THIS TIMELINE IS FUCKED UP.

Anwyay, Mohinder injects himself with the promicin and gets super strength. Then (spoiler alert!) Jordan Collier returns from the dead, reviving the Nova Group and Isabelle loses her powers when Richard injects her with the serum from the future.

LOLOLOLOL. I'm probably the only person on your flist who actually got this.

Perhaps if this were stretched out over more than one episode, it would have been better, but as it stands, it all happened way to fast to be understandable.

WORD!

Perhaps she will change over time, but her personality in her first few scenes reminded me of Elle's with the whole "I am both innocent and menacing" ( ... )

See, that makes no sense, because they way the show is presented, everything is happening at the same time. At least that's what one expects when watching a show. Of course, if I have learned anything, it's that this is no ordinary show, so why should it be expected to adhere to the same conventions as every other show on tv ever? You know, this kind of confusion could all be avoided by simply adding another line of text to the name/location lines, but perhaps that's asking too much. This, along with the "Look! Look! Lok! There are 300 things happening in one episode!!" feeling made this episode way harder to follow than it should have been.

Nice! I was hoping somebody would. I had to do a lot ( ... )

Okay, so now that I have finally finished all my recaps (this week's ep excepted), I can go about commenting on all the various posts I'd been putting off.

Angela of course is greatness. You know, I'd thought Squerb was right about that touch thing, too, but I started hearing murmurs around last spring that she actually had the dream-vision thing. I think the idea is that Shaft had a weird astral projection thing, where he could enter other peoples' dreams (but don't ask me how he was able to get Peter to travel backwards in time 7 months, like he did in the s1 finale-however, I think this was the same thing that Pete did when he went to the virus-ridden future and saw himself and Caitlin, yet wasn't really there), but that Angela has the prophetic dreams.

Heh, Future Peter is better than regular Peter, but he still fails. That's my professional opinion.

The Level 5 dudes certainly had a lot of potential, even if half of them are dead now but I still have no idea why Bennet was down there with them. And though I, too, was ( ... )

As you will see in future recaps, I have now given up hope for Future!Peter and am back on board the Present!Peter train. Of course, my misgivings are not so much character-related, but stylistic. But, at this point, I was clearly ready to trade in Emo Pete for this new-and-improved version.

Of all of the failings of season three so far, THIS is the biggest and most disappointing. The volume is called "Villains", right? I demand more villains, not just the people I already know being bad in the future. That's not the same!

Mohinder is entirely fail. Well, not entirely-this new troll!Mohinder is by far the best incarnation I've ever seen.
Yes, the fact that Mohinder is now obviously failing on-screen makes this whole story thus far, full of win. Of course, some may argue that he has been on-screen failing all along, but what he has going on here is a ( ... )
