Apparently Hitler's visage also represents AIDS in some commercials in Europe (they wanted a "face of evil"). I'm getting a sense that the man is enjoying a major resurgence in popularity as a visual icon. Am I wrong to be worried about this? Since Obama is black, aren't there some African dictators these people could reference? (insert sarcasm emoticon here)
Well, I am inclined to agree that Hitler is more universally recognizable as evil than any other icon. But my worry is that by demoting him to boogeyman, we overlook the very real person he was, who rose to power though very inauspicious means, and did terrible things to real people, most of whom are no longer here to speak out...
Maybe we need to convince all major religions to adopt "horns and a pitchfork" for their version of evil, so we can all agree on something cross-culturally that doesn't involve using HItler. :)
I was just thinking this might be tied to the loss of potency in images of the devil to make people thing =evil! I mean I can't even write that without smiling a little bit. We have cute devils, fire devils, Dust Devils, SNL's churchlady asking if it could be Satan for a laugh, etc. The traditional Old Scratch just doesn't inspire people to stick to the straight and narrow anymore.
So maybe Hitler. Hitler, ad hoc attacks and horrendously bad logic.

Why? Why would you do that? There's every shred of evidence against this!
