Why are the British so utterly insane? I'm sat at work listening to my boss postpone all of her london meetings for the next 6 days because.....LONDON MAY HAVE UP TO 5CM OF SNOWFALL TONIGHT. jesus wept, how will the country survive such a blizzard? Very tiny people may possibly get snowed into their very tiny houses ( Read more... )

London will be fucked tomorrow. Bet you. The Underground will just grind to a halt. It does that.

i know. i'm more wondering WHY! it's like cardiff - a city where it perpetually fucking rains, yet is completely ill-equipped to handle the tiniest amount of excess moisture.
as a nation, we always seem really surprised when we experience Winter.. 'bloody fuck, snow! in northern europe? my god'
'rain? next to the coast? what kind of madness is this'

it just baffles me, is all. This country has always had snow, every year, in most places, until about 10-15 years ago when it just seemed to stop. And now when we get more than a millimetre of coverage, the entire country goes mental.

I know, it drives me insane. The roads will all melt in the summer, too.

that bit i can partially understand. it's ok for a country that is rarely hot to be ill-equipped for intensely hot weather. But for a country that lives in nigh-on perpetual bleak midwinter not to be equipped for a bit of snow? i don't even think it's that it can't take it. The people around it just panic and shut everything down.
I mean, of all things to stop.... THE UNDERGROUND? the underground would probably survive a nuclear blast. i think it'll run fairly safely when there is some snow 60 feet above you. I'm gonna live in Cambodia. Sure, they have landmines everywhere, but they know how to fucking deal with them.

It's absurd, a woman I work with had to stay one extra night in Prague because they had over a foot of snow in some parts and were forced to close the airport. Can you imagine what would happen here? The whole country would grind to a halt. Christ it was bad enough the other week when it was windy for fucks sake.

You forget that Britain only ever gets the wrong kind of and that's why public transport can't handle it. We're just unlucky I guess
