The *only* thing I will say in favor of this episode/show is that I really got the vibes that Bei Fong understood and possibly even believed what Mako was saying, bit that there is something bigger and more dangerous going on that she is protecting him from.

I didn't get that sense, and I'm having a hard time trusting the writers at this point, but I hope you're right. That would redeem at least a little of what we saw there.

Possibly the bigger/dangerous thing being that the mustache twits are involved with the bad guys, which is why she hasn't booted them both out of her department? Hm...

That's along the lines I was thinking. Because it wasn't just that she didn't believe him, or contradicted him, or ignored him because of status -- she kept trying to get him to stop talking.

The rest of it -- well, for starters, if I never see another quote unquote "surprise" kiss in this franchise I will turn joyous cartwheels. I will never understand why this seems like an appealing thing to do in fiction, really, I cannot.

I still like Asami.

And that *would* be more in character for both her and Mako...

Jim could you please write the rest of the season? And then the next two? Pretty please? I want to watch *your* version. I agree with everything you said. I am holding out some *faint* hope that we'll get a later reveal that Beifong knew something was wrong and is secretly investigating it on her own.

Also, is Beifong the only female cop in Republic City?

I hope you're right. Like I said in another comment, I don't have a lot of trust in the writers at this point, but I'd like to see something to show that they didn't just dumb her character down for the sake of the plot.

And ... I don't know. But given the season so far, that wouldn't surprise me :-(

I have to agree. It feels rushed, plot-wise (they really had not expected to go past season 1, and even had to pare it down), and now, it feels like they're trying too hard to add ideas quickly, and characterization suffers because of the attempt.

I'm frustrated and grumpy, but it feels like they're rushing everything that needs to be taken slowly, and dragging out things that could be done more quickly.

I know, right? UI mean, if the twins aren't really adding anything to the plot, then they should never have been added to the story in the first place as players. Background characters, yes, but otherwise... I mean, if they wanted to play with the whole "engagement" storyline, they could have done it in a comic book side story.

Yes to all the said above. Okay, Bolin was always kind of a comic relief-character but at the moment they are taking it to far. Since it is no longer funny but just sad.
I sometimes need to remind myself that this is indeed the team that did Avatar: The last Airbender. But I think that is their biggest problem with Aang they could tell a cohesive story over three books, since Nickelodeon bought all three season in advance. With Korra they just bought one season in advance that is the reason the last season ended the way it ended which made it impossible to make a season in how Korra would have to meditate to get her skills back. And according to the avatar wiki, all four seasons should be "stand-alones" this might be the reason that some things feel kinda rush and for me personally don't feel as cohesive as in The Legend of Aang. But I still believe in the series maybe they can turn the wheel around.

I've actually been told it's not the same team, though I haven't done the digging to verify this. But if the information at http://bankuei.tumblr.com/post/25763644437/kernels-a-visual-representation-of-legend-of is correct, it could explain a lot.

If Zhu Li turns out to be a mole or informant, and in the end helps take down Varrick... nah, it'll never happen.

I would stand up and applaud.

At this point, I'll cheer for anything that develops her character beyond the level of "office furniture," though...
