Yep, that too.

Is Varrick supposed to be a good guy in this season? I can't even tell what the intention is there.

My theory is that Varrick is the one who paid the Agni Kai to blow up the cultural center so the Northern Water Tribe could take the blame. He has the money and the motive, and has shown with his new propaganda 'movers' that he's not the most honest sort.

I suspect he's going to wind up being a villain, at least a minor one.

That makes a great deal of sense, and wouldn't surprise me at all. Though I'd be disappointed in yet another example of Korra trusting and following the bad guy. (As opposed to it being just an example of Korra trusting and following the skeevy guy.)

Tangentially, I've been reading and adoring the mini-graphic-novel series where Zuko goes in search of his mommy (with Azula in tow). :-)

I had not been aware of these. Are they online or in print?

There's a Kindle version, but I got the print ones from various comic shops.

There's a finished trilogy called "The Promise," in which Zuko makes Aang swear to "deal with" him if Zuko ever shows signs of going a little too Ozai, and the problems of integrating Fire Nationals with everyone else are explored -- who are Aang and Zuko meant, respectively, to be advocating for, in order to fulfill their roles and keep the peace?

And the trilogy I'm reading now, "The Search," is on Book Two, with Book Three coming out either this month or November. I'm not entirely pleased with the direction Azula's character has taken, but I'm not entirely displeased either.

It's probably a sign of how much this show is losing me that I was more excited about the prospect of new characters being introduced (Fire lord? His mother? Tell me more!) than about what was going on with the characters we already have. For a show as three-dimensional as A:TLA, the sequel is depressingly flat.

Varrick is there for comic relief. His assistant moonlights for Unalaq.

Korra still has her issues with the spiritual side. She's already been shown to be impulsive.

I do like Lin Bei Fong's line to Mako that he should have seen the temple after Tenzin broke up with her. ;)

This may be a reasonable setup for Eska to really start gaining some personality, rather than being as wooden as her twin. Unless the twin starts making eyes at Asami. Hm.....

I've thought the other episodes this season have been kind of meh, but this is the first one I have thought is actively *terrible*. I pretty much hated every decision that got made in this episode, except for Mako's. He's trying to do his job as best he can, even if his fellow cops are sabotaging him (out of laziness, not bad intent, but that could be wrong). And you are spot on that Korra's treatment of Mako was NOT OKAY, and he was right to call her out and break up with her.

Really, the only thing I'm looking forward to currently is seeing how the Fire Nation has changed, meeting the current Fire Lord, and General Iroh's *grandfather*. :D
