All of the New Amsterdam stories are wonderful. I love the character of Abby Irene in particular because when you first meet her, she is already "a woman of a certain age", and comfortable with who she is and what she is doing.

Is Detective Crown Investigator Abigail Irene Garrett perchance a homage to Randall Garrett's Lord Darcy, Crown Investegator, forensic sorcerer?

I don't read well on Kindle, and the books don't seem to be available in print. What a shame. I'd read them all too.

I don't know, but knowing Bear, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Regarding Seeing Ear Theatre, I was only familiar with the J. Michael Straczynski stories, that afaik he wrote as originals for the site. I can't speak to the adaptations, but I remember enjoying those. It's been a while since I heard them, though, so the problematic elements james_nicoll mentioned may be there.

If you're interested in longer, non-podcast fiction, Big Finish Audio produces original Doctor Who stories, mostly "original" series, with a lot of original cast members doing voice work. They also have a number of other spinoff audio stuff for other media. They sell downloads, so if you're interested you don't have to wait for a CD to come in the mail! http://www.bigfinish.com/
