A Thank You from the Aicardi Syndrome Foundation

Hey, what’s this? Why, it looks like a BBC article about the Aicardi Syndrome Foundation fundraiser and sexism in SF/F cover art. Now, at a time like this, there are two choices. You can squee and dance around like a little kid because holy crap, a major news outlet is recognizing your fundraiser and contributing to an important conversation! Or ( Read more... )

Thank you for not wearing black briefs for the pose.

Congratulations on the BBC article. I'll add a Kermit flail to your Snoopy dance. That's a really nice article because 1) it talks about both of your points (stupid cover poses and Aicardi fundraising) and 2) it doesn't make anyone sound like a dip. I especially like that they closed with one of my favorite consequences of you becoming the Cover Art Authority on Gender Exploitation.

Here's a fun cover John and you should do together. Extra bonus for the blue paint. *grin*

You mean this cover? (No Scalzi or blue paint, alas, but it does feature the return of the Bear!)

I had seen the bear version somewhere, but not the original. Now that is one crazy pose I could not have done better than you, and I am female.

That's what you get for traveling without computer access for a week or so. I never miss the internet then - I'm old enough to remember typewriters, lol - but when I come home, I'm too lazy to read up on tons of blogs an LJ posts, and thus get out of the loop. :-)

Gratuitous Pose Critique Comment #1: You can tell you don't have boobs--your right humerus is pressed into your side, but in the original cover the arm is slanted slightly out and up to make room for the adipose tissue. The line of the shoulders falls slightly from the right shoulder to the left, while in your pose it falls ever so slightly from the left to the right to counterbalance the legs. Not that I nitpick or anything.

Gratuitous Pose Critique Comment #2: DAMN I wish my legs were that good.

Pardon my coming in late on this, but while I've been following and enjoying the pose challenges, I'm still not clear on what Aicardi Syndrome is.

ETA: If I could remember the code, I would strike through that last paragraph, having now read your original blog post on poses and Aicardi Syndrome. Go you, and I hope the fundraiser helps them figure out what causes this and how to prevent/cure it.

Ah so! Thank you. I have Learned Something New today (since what I "remembered" was so obviously wrong).

From what I've learned, I think we're a long way from being able to prevent or cure it. But I've also been told that the money we raised will make a tremendous difference, and hopefully get us that much closer.

I made the offer over in the SFWA Forums, but so far they haven't taken me up on it :-)
