I think the second one is my favorite. I really liked Oree, and the details of how magic works and how her artistic powers work were original and intriguing. She was also more active than Yeine. I was worried when I realized that Sieh was the viewpoint character for the third book. There are many brilliant secondary characters that don't work well as protagonists. Jemisin manages by making him begin to age, by making him mortal, which I thought was very clever. I was befuddled for a majority of the third book; it seemed opaque and impenetrable in a way that the first two weren't. But the resolution was really splendid. And the Glossary made me burst out laughing.

Jemisin had sent me a signed copy, and at first I thought she had done the glossary defacing herself. I spent a fair amount of time holding the pages to the light, checking for indendtations in the paper or bleedthrough from the ink :-)

I was befuddled a bit myself. One of these days I want to go back and reread it with the knowledge of what's happening, and see how that changes the book for me.

I loved this one. Sieh was one of my favourite characters in the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, so getting his pov was like a gift.

I guessed quite a lot of the reveal stuff, so it didn't feel to me like there were gaps in the story, just that Sieh couldn't work it out himself until he was ready.

I also deeply loved the coda, the annotations in the glossary, and the short story about Oree Shoth. I don't know if I would have felt the series was complete with out those pieces.

I haven't ready anything else by her yet, but her new series is on my list of things to check out. And yeah - I've never met her in person, but I like her online writing as well as her fiction, which is nice.
