I'm amused, Jim. You know what I'd picked up from the library the other day? The first four episodes of Cosmos.

What was it that felt messed up, and do you know what it is about her writing that makes you keep reading anyway?

That's too bad.

Yeah, I would buy it just for "an entire book about Sieh." He's another of her characters I really like.

I thought Hundred Thousand Kingdoms was great, and I'm seriously looking forward to getting onto the sequel - which is slowly rising to the front of my To-Be-Read shelf. Thanks for whetting the appetite, and for putting another bean into the "First, do the re-read!" pot. That's always a tricky decision: some books it makes a lot more difference to than others, and there's a wide grey area in which my instincts aren't reliable.

I don't know that the reread is a requirement for everyone, but my memory doesn't hold on to story details that well, and there were parts where I knew I was missing something but didn't figure out what until later...

I liked The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. I thought The Broken Kingdoms revealed Jemisin was hitting her limits as a writer. I haven't read book three yet, but I am planning to, though not with expectations as high as when I read book two.

Basically, I thought The Broken Kingdoms was pretty much book one, recycled.

It’s almost poetic at times

Funny thing about that.

I guess that would account for it, eh?

I feel all observant and perceptive now :-)
