It happens so often that horses are mishandled in fantasy (or modern) novels. Granted, I'm curious about everything else re: the book, but I really cannot wait to see how the horses are shown, I confess. (So long to wait, still! XD)

I will have to give this one a try. I couldn't get into A Companion to Wolves and I still don't know why, since it seemed to be right up my alley. But this sounds really good and I will give Bear another go!

Sometimes an author's style just doesn't work for us. I've had people who just didn't appreciate my fiction, and I've read books that others tell me are brilliant, but I couldn't get past the first two chapters.

I'd say give it a shot, and if it doesn't work, then maybe her style just doesn't do it for you.

Interesting that you posted this review. I just saw a notice that Bear will be appearing at a bookstore in Albany later this year--only about an hour and a half from where I live. Might have to take a road trip...

Sometimes instead of a review, I just want to write "haha, I'm reading this book and you're not yet!" I mean, really, how is that not recommendation enough?

Did I mention I also read Jaime Lee Moyer's new book a few weeks back? :-)

Who wants all plot-lines to be wrapped up, anyway? ;3 Especially in the first book of a series/ It does sound like a fun and engaging read!

I like some closure at the end of the book. I don't need *everything* wrapped up, but I do get frustrated with books that just stop, cliffhanger-style.

Well, yes, you need some closure for a major book plot.
