Welcome to First Book Friday.

Today I am delighted to welcome Catherynne M. Valente (yuki-onna on LJ) to the blog. I’ve been trying to figure out how best to introduce her here, and have come up with the following. Cat is a beautiful person who writes beautiful stories, and our world would be a poorer place without her.

Wonderful story.

You (Valente) are one of those authors I've been meaning to read for a couple of years but haven't gotten around to yet. This? Has me heading for your Labyrinth (sounds like exactly the sort of thing I love but haven't read much of in the last decade and a half or so)

This series is one of the things keeping me afloat in the after-college purgatory, so I just wanted to thank you for it - and thank yuki-onna and every other author for sharing.

It's also nice to see that myth and fairy tale-inspired stories can get published, because sometimes it seems like there isn't any room for that on the professional bookshelf.

But hey, I'm still catching up to what the fantasy genre has been doing for the last decade, so maybe a little optimism is in order.

Very glad to hear it!

And I certainly hope fairy tale inspired stories can get published, since I've got Snow Queen's Shadow coming out in just over two months :-)

Actually, I don't mind looking at chapters from people. (In fact, I just looked at someone's work on their cellphone here at Norwescon.) The person asking should just make sure that she is a genius first, as Cat did, for best results.

Awesome - so happy to read this one! Catherynne Valente has been a big inspiration to me for some time now, so it's nice to read how she got started.
