Goblin Tales [Amazon | B&N | Lulu] picked up reviews at SciFiChick (“This must-read collection…”) and Romantic Times (“…a fabulous introduction to Hines’ writing, his world of goblins, and his world of Libriomancy all in one - who can pass up a 3-fer?”)

I'm a big fan of the concept of the transformative work/derivative work - I like to point out that the Aeneid is fanfic - to the point where I've commissioned four "fanfic gone right" novellas for an anthology I'm putting together. Your blog post makes me happy. :-)

I had forgotten about M.A.S.K. until Robot Chicken on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim took it apart in stop-action animated glorious satire. Now I don't have to watch it. Robot Chicken is seriously deranged and intensely funny -- I find their version of Smurfs to be much more believable. (evil grin)

I just a geek squee at those Lego MASK designs. I only had 2 of the vehicles as a kid but they were fun.

As for the blog comment I agree with you. Both fanfiction and commercial authors can write good an bad. Either way I do enjoying reading a good story.

On first glance at your post, I assumed that the "Organization for Transformative Works" link in the top half had something to do with the MOCs in the bottom half. Actually reading it solved that problem pretty quickly, but I briefly had this glorious vision of a guild for the creators of Autobots, Decepticons, Go-Bots, and their various conceptual descendants...

I was aware of M.A.S.K., but I don't recall ever really watching it. My little brother did, though, and was a huge Transformers nut...

Now that's a horrifying thought. 'Scuse me, right back.

...Well, hell. If your LJ profile is correct, you are the same age as my little brother (he's 4/13/74). This shakes my entire worldview; my default assumption is that people whom I respect must necessarily be older than I. Gives me a target to aim for, you know?

You're just dashing all my dreams today, Mr. Hines.

Heh. I keep thinking that our host is *much* younger than I, when in fact it's only a couple of years. (I started reading his stuff after seeing him on panels at cons and thinking he seemed like "a sweet kid.") Must be the endlessly sunny disposition.

Have you had that experience yet where your doctor is younger than you are?

I don't think so, but there's no way I'm going to ask. :)
