First Book Friday: Elizabeth Bear

Elizabeth Bear (matociquala on LJ) has won the Campbell award for best new writer, the Hugo award (twice), the Locus award for best first novel, and the Sturgeon award. If my math is right, she’s put out about sixteen books since 2005, not counting several short fiction collections. Plus she’s been quoted on Criminal

I note that you spoke of the Jenny Casey-in-your-head in the present tense, so I have to echo Anonymous.
No matter what I say about the Jenny Casey books, it comes out lame, so all I'll say is that I while enjoy your other work immensely, Jenny will always be a touchstone character for me.

I'd hate to think of making Jenny miserable enough again to protag--I think her character arc ended with her as happy as it is reasonable for her to be. But she may show up as a supporting character at some point.

Good point - she certainly deserves as much happiness as she can get. She would make an excellent supporting character (in a sense, that's how her story opened), and I hope to catch a glimpse of her someday.

The Jenny Casey books were the first Bear books to make me cry, sob even, but certainly not the last!

I love these First Book Friday posts. This one feels more personal since I'm a current participant on OWW and just acquired an agent. Elizabeth Bear's story is an inspiration for me.
