Realms Follow-up

Back in October, I wrote a rather snarky post (Realms Betting Pool) about the latest reincarnation of Realms of Fantasy, which had been purchased by Damnation Books.  At the time, I was not hopeful.  Damnation didn’t have the best reputation, and the owner’s defensive comments in Tobias Buckell’s blog made me want to weep for the fate of a magazine ( Read more... )

The cover makes me think of Remedios Varo, which is one of the artists I mention any time a discussion of "I wish fantasy illustration would move beyond the usual suspects" comes up. So good on them.

Oh, I'm so right there with you on both Varo and "moving beyond the usual suspects".

Very encouraging and good to hear. I'll keep my fingers crossed. And hmmm...I did just write a short story....

Hey Jim,

I could nitpick about the February issue too (there is ALWAYS room for improvement), but I'm glad you like it. And in all fairness, while Theodora Goss does indeed make everything better, we actually recruited her during the days of Tir Na Nog Press. She was on track all along to take over with the Feb. issue. The fact that this coincided with the new publishers taking over was just a coincidence (an excellent and pleasant coincidence with fortuitous timing, I must admit).

Thanks for the timeline clarification. Either way, the fact that they kept on most of the staff was, I think, a very promising sign.

And of course there's something to nitpick :-) There should be. If that ever changes, it probably means you're settling.

That's encouraging! I really like that cover art, it's eye-catching and unique.

I might have to submit something!
