I’m very fortunate. I’ve got a lot of very nifty friends and acquaintances, both the real-world and the online variety, and sometimes I’ve just got to show them off.

To that end, I’m declaring this an open “Promote Your Friends” thread.  Please feel free to post whatever cool projects or accomplishments your own friends have been up to lately.  (If ( Read more... )

Random: I saw Elizabeth Bear's name, and had to go clicking through the link to find why it was her name sounded so freakin' familiar. Then I saw it. I read three books in a series of hers. It's always so odd when that happens...

Sorry, nothing nifty for you though. Maybe next month. That's when everyone seems to have books coming out.

Bear is also involved in Shadow Unit, and is one of the better-known folks on the SF/F blogosphere.

Most of the time, books tend to come out on the first Tuesday of the month :-)

Ah, thus they can be good timing for that last Friday of the month paycheck! Must cover the basics you know: food, rent, books. (But this is also good to know. It makes Tuesdays exciting again.)

I get this feeling that the more time I spend following authors, the more authors and books I will find. I think this is a good thing.

My husband (and best friend :P) has three flash stories coming up on Flashshot! He had spasms of excitement when he saw his name on their website this morning (Christopher Jensen):

My friend, graydown, has started up a short, biweekly podcast about science and science fiction in the Midwest (central Great Plains definition of Midwest), The Voice of the Vortex. She's a science journal editor and a soon-to-be-published (short story) author.

Jim, thanks for mentioning my book.

Let me post some nifty things friends of mine have been up to:

The documentary Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown is available on DVD. Some friends of mine made it. They also made an e-documentary called Splat Pack about horror filmmakers.

Oops. I'm at the day job and have to day job a bit.
