"You weren't just being polite!"

LOL.

Yikes re: the layoff! Glad you were able to make the full-time writing thing work so soon!

Agreed. If that happened to me, I'd be just, well, like Fred Flintstone when someone tells him something unbelievable: "Blaaablaaaablablaaaaa...."

Yeah, I spent a couple days in a bit of a haze. Even worse was the library launch party, where everyone on campus was all excited, and I have to perform in front of the people who were firing me, who were there for 'support,' even though I wasn't supposed to let on that it was happening.

It was intense. Very intense LOL.

Yeah. "Here, we think you're great. Just don't let the door hit you in the behind on the way out."

I am glad that it worked out for you, though. The stress alone would have killed other people.

Oh, Jim, I just read a post on Joshua's blog a few days ago. He seems an interesting fellow. He was responding to Dean Wesley Smith's advice that most writers don't need an agent anymore. It was an thought-provoking post.

Joshua's a good agent, and very sharp. I saw him engaging in a dialog with Smith, and I've really appreciated the back and forth from both of them. I wish more online discussions could be that useful.

So true! I love to see a polite, intelligent, reasoned exchange of ideas like this. We can all benefit from reasoned multiple viewpoints.

I love how everyone's story is completely different. Those must have been some good first chapters!

Love the First Book Friday series. It promises at least one good read during the week for me...

And thanks for sharing Buckell.

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it, and I'm going to try to keep it going for a while. (I've got a few more already entered and prescheduled.)

Toby's a fun guy!

Those of you who have not read Mr. Buckell's amazing space-opera trilogy, RUN DO NOT WALK to obtain copies. Seriously, they're awesome books and need to be even bigger smash hits than they are.

(I admit to not having read the Halo book myself. Yet.)
