Vacation

Jul 02, 2010 09:30

So tomorrow my family heads north for vacation.  We’ll be gone for a week … the same week that Red Hood’s Revenge [B&N | Mysterious Galaxy | Amazon] comes out.  This is going to be interesting.

Since I won’t be around on Tuesday, I went ahead and drew a winner for the 8th and final book giveaway.  Congratulations to lavvyan, who wrote the following ( Read more... )

We'll have either two or five children running about for most of the time. Napping could be a bit of a challenge...

Two or five? What exactly have you been doing, Jim?

I found Red Hood at BN yesterday, so some people don't have to wait until the 8th!

I found a copy at my B&N too. World domination is underway.

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Hm ... okay, I need to practice my World Domination Laugh. That should give me something to do on the drive tomorrow :-)

Oh, the stress and toil of that pic!

If you have time, check my post yesterday--you might enjoy it.

I did, and thank you! It was another of those things where I was delighted to read the post, and loved the discussion, but felt a little hesitant to jump in. I didn't want to come off as "Hi, I'm the wonderful author she's talking about here. Bask in my Awesomeness!"

I don't imagine I would have written that, or that I would have come off that way, but the thought still gets in my way, you know? (Or am I just sounding crazy now?)

And I'm thrilled that Red Hood is your favorite. I figure every book I write should be better than the last, so that's exactly the reaction I want :-)

No, I hear ya. I agonize the rare times I see something of mine discussed in my flist. One time I did jump in, and while no one expressed disgust at the author snouting in, I noticed discussion promptly ceased. (Of course they could have just moved on, but.)

I doubt I was part of the discussion you mention, but I think that despite the democratising power of the internet, for a lot of people, authors are still Authors! and this can manisfest (when the Author! manifests, as it were) in a worry that discussing things while the creator in question is in the room is a bit rude, and a wariness to tread carefully and not get on anyone's bad side.

For me at least all this is rooted in a particularly unsuccessful high school crit group, but others may differ!

Thanks! And I hope so. My agent has already told me he expects big things from this book. Which is both exciting and a little scary :-)

Have fun, eat lots of food, and come back to us squealing about your book! :3 :3

Sounds like a good plan to me! Thanks :-)

(I'll probably be doing a discussion post after I get back, for anyone who wants to chat about the book...)
