Saturday was my wife’s birthday, so much of the weekend was spent doing things like making breakfast for her and the family, going out to birthday dinner with my parents, then going out to lunch the next day and watching a movie with just the two of us.  As a result, I spent zero time on things writing-related.  Nothing on Snow Queen, nothing on ( Read more... )

Aww... By the way, is that just an effect of the camera, or does Flit have a different color for each eye?

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition is surprised, I think, by the Snooproliferation.

Lighting effect. I have no idea what caused it. It's kind of cool, though. If I can get them to show up as red and green instead of red and blue, I'll have the perfect Christmas kitty photo!

It's stil la good Christmas photo, IMO. Anything with a resident feline among the ornamentation. Canine works too, of course.

If you did want one of his eyes green in the scanned photo, there's always MS-paint. >=}

I considered trying to Photoshop the blue eye, but that felt like cheating :-)

You mean you don't make breakfast for the family on a regular basis?

Hey, congrats on your wife's birthday.

"You mean you don't make breakfast for the family on a regular basis?"

It's safer that way :-) I did finish breakfast without burning down the house, but it was messy. Turned out very tasty, though!

Actually, breakfast isn't usually that hard. The boy wants Life Cereal with milk, and the daughter gets whatever she wants on her own.

Wow. I don't suppose they're as predictable for lunch and dinner, too?

The four-year-old likes his routines, so I've usually got a pretty good guess what he'll want for lunch on the weekends. Less so with his big sister.

Happy Birthday to your wife, and EEEEE, kitty! Fluffy kitty! As you can see from my icon, my kitty is not nearly so fluffy.

Thanks! When I got the three cats back in '97, I was looking for short-haired cats. Ended up with 2 out of 3 long-hairs. (Two pics of long-hair #2 here if you're interested.) They're beautiful, but I could do without the matted fur and the ... um ... well, let's just say all that long fur occasionally interferes with good litter-box hygiene.

So what was going on that Unhappy Cat was Unhappy in your icon?

Long-hair #2 is gorgeous as an adult. Looks a little unfortunate as a kitten, though. ^_^ And I can only imagine the litter-box hygiene shenanigans with a long-hair. We've only ever had short-haired cats, and sometimes even that can cause bathing issues (especially when the cat, like mine, is too fat to clean themselves).

Weeeeyll... let's just say I'd recently discovered stuffonmycat.com ...

Pod was a pathetic kitten. It doesn't help that the first pic was taken right after he got flea-sprayed :-) He was definitely an ugly duckling cat, but those are the kind my family has always taken in.

Thanks! Flit is a beautiful little cat. Dumb as a brick, but gorgeous.

We had a cat like that once. He was the Joseph Fiennes of cats in appearance, but dumb as a box of rocks. Sadly, he followed the other cat outside and got hit by a car :(

Aw, crud. I'm very sorry to hear that.

Flit has escaped a few times too, but fortunately, she's a coward. The first time she got out, we found her hiding in the bushes, mewling pathetically. These days she mostly just sneaks into the garage, but doesn't try to get any further.

Christmas and cats go together like acorn squash and butter.

They do require some careful ornament arrangements, though. We lost several before figuring out that only the unbreakable ornaments should be hung within paw's reach.

My family has a box labeled "tree bottom ornaments" that is full of cat-safe decorations that won't mind too much being chased across the floor.
