1) After spending all that time working on Red Hood’s Revenge, it’s amazing how quickly the short fiction goes.  One week from short story seed to finished first draft?  I could get used to this!  Now to go back and make the whole thing coherent and cohesive.  (Right now it’s 3700 words of themeless mess, but that’s okay.  It’ll get better.)

Scott Westerfeld wrote a YA science fiction trilogy called 'Uglies', 'Pretties', and 'Specials'. It raises some of the appearance questions in a society where everyone is surgically corrected to be 'normal' and 'pretty' at age 16. Admittedly, a backhanded approach to the question, but still a fun series. :)

I did read Uglies a while back. It felt a little message-heavy, but was still a fun read. Like so many other things, the sequels are on the list of books I want to check out but haven't gotten to yet...

While the character starts out "evil" and certainly has moments of being comic relief, I really love Massha from Robert Aspirin's MYTH books. Her growth as a character is lovely to watch, and I *love* that he gave her a great love interest/love story. While Skeeve is a little stunned at the man's interest, it is portrayed very natural and sincere. Massha struggles with her self image, but by and large accepts herself as a "fat broad" and really runs with it. She's funny, sweet, and becomes much more sure of herself ( ... )

Lucy Trenton, the hero of difrancis's first Crosspointe Novel, *The Cipher*, struggles a little with image/weight issues.

Also, while I've not read them yet, a dear friend of mine with clinical body/image issues really loved Piers Anthony's *Mode* Series.

David Eddings Belgariad Series (or possibly Mallorean) had one of the kings of the friendly countries as fat. I can't remember which one off-hand though (it has been many a year since I read that series).
