mam: fifty shades of darker

Feb 11, 2017 19:55

So mam watches "Loose Women" kind of talk show with women around a table (I think, I'm at work when it's on).

So mam starts telling me about the ladies and they're discussing Fifty Shades of Darker, and she assumed that they were talking about hair dye *g*

I had a good hard laugh about this.

My niece is obsessed with the movies, and I don't understand how considering if she sees another type of movie with the same situations she rails against it. I told her she should read up on the books and understand why I (and others) really don't like the movies/books...but I guess those who dislike are a minority because of how popular the movies have been.

I creased up laughing when Mam said it.

Yeah, you have to educate your niece. It romanticizes abuse.

I haven't read the books or seen the movies - not because I have anything against them; they're just not my cup of tea. However, it looks like I'm going to "Darker" because a friend of mine is in it. I think I'd prefer if she were in something interesting involving hair dye!!!

hah -- will you be able to look your mate in the eye?

The film is like totally about hair dye, now.

Luckily, she lives on the opposite coast. I'll just send her a "congrats!" and leave out the hair dye!!!

ahahaha, this makes me think of the time my mom told me and my sister about this movie she'd watched that had shocked her because "all of a sudden they started having sex", and as she was going on telling us about this movie that had started out a perfectly ordinary Western, we asked, "... was the name of this movie Brokeback Mountain, by any chance?"

So yes, that's how much of a rock my mom lives under. In total fairness to her, I looked at the DVD case, and it doesn't indicate ANYWHERE that there's a gay romance in it, let alone an explicit sex scene. It really does just look like a buddy cowboy movie.

(As it turned out, the reason why she brought it up was because she'd liked it a lot and wanted to watch it with my sister and me. So come to find out, my mom likes slash. I already knew she liked h/c, though she doesn't know the name for it. I really think she would've loved fandom if she had ever gotten into it.)

s the programme continued, the lady presenter had been given a goodie bag. And in the goodie bag there were large earrings with clasps (they weren't earrings). and the battery powered vibrating thing with a kink in....

mam began to figure things out.

don't forget the furry handcuffs.
