On Beyonce

So, I follow somewhere around 7 random people on the Internet, either because I think their lives are interesting, or they regularly post, discuss, and/or analyze information I want to know.  Of these 7 people, the two most feminist (as in, they both are much better grounded in feminist theory than I am, which is part of why I follow them) both LOVE Beyonce, allegedly for being a strong and unbreakable female role model who achieves like 87 billion things a day.  The achievement part is particularly stressed in discussions of Beyonce, it seems.  Does she really achieve that much more than other pop stars with kids?

Anyway, earlier this week, I had to write a paper, and I needed some fierce feminist music to inspire me.  So I listened to Beyonce, specifically the most listened to Beyonce on Spotify, and I still don't get it.  It still really seems very generic pop to me, and mostly about men, (especially Jay Z lol).  I mean, Halo, that's a pretty song and all, but it's not really empowering.  Maybe it's the handful of songs by Destiny's Child, like Bills Bills Bills and Independent Women and Survivor that give her this reputation of being all fierce.  I guess my overall conclusion on Beyonce is some of her music is pretty good; I think I like Destiny's Child better.  Overall, I still don't get the hype, although I do want to watch the visual album some time.  Just not enough to buy it.  I imagine that in time, it will appear on YouTube.  I can wait.
