Da Plane! Da Plane!

So, here's a fun tidbit: I totally just had Air Force One fly over my head a little while ago (okay, so it was about an hour ago from the time this entry posted). No, seriously, I did! A little before 1 p.m., as my Dad and I were leaving from lunch, and we were about to get to his car, a REEEEAAAAAALLLY big giant plane flew over our head. I mean ( Read more... )

I <3 this story!

True true. Heh heh. I know quite a few Repubs who are good people, but can't stand Bush, so it's all good! But then, what IS there to like about him, except for his amusement factor?

My question - why does AF1 have to be so big? Does it have to fit his whole cabinet or something?

Also, I love your icon. Is it stealable?

Oh definitely stealable. I found it originally on a car bumper sticker and then made my own icon. ^_^

And yeah, I don't get how huge it is...they could practically have Congress meet in there! I mean, it had just taken off, but it was even more huge than I've seen even freight planes (which are pretty big)!

Last I knew, Air Force One was a Boeing 747-400 with a modified interior. So it's not a terribly special plane; it's a normal production passenger aircraft.

That doesn't answer the question of why Air Force One couldn't be, say, a 737 or some smaller passenger aircraft.

Not that I'm sticking up for the prez here, but 747's have a much longer range than 737's. So that, at least, is understandable.
