When Papa Joe broke his second hip in 1997, ... I'm sure I've told you this story, but I'm reminding you. He'd broken his first hip on the way up the stairs into the house after coming home from going out to eat with his wife, two of his sons, and one grandson. Jeff had gone to a meeting in Lemont, and Gary had gone to Romeoville (and taken me with him; I was the grandson present), so only he and Grandma JJ went home. But she was there and called Jeff and paramedics. Two months later to the day, 03 April, he broke his second hip, and he was alone in the house at the time, which was almost unheard of in that house. Gary was at work, Jeff was at work, Peggy had come by earlier to take Grandma JJ out shopping, and I had stopped by after my classes to check on things and Grandma Jeff had asked me to take her on some errands. I was the first one back, and when I came around to the living room after putting Grandma Jeff's groceries away, I found Papa Joe sitting on the floor in the living room. Heck I can't count the times when Ron and I lived with Uncle Ned that we'd come home and either find him on the floor or otherwise in need of help. And we lived with him.

But Jill does have a semi-valid point wherein if you attempt to keep tabs or the person doesn't live alone, it increases the chances of the discovery having a better result.

I worry about my grandmother constantly, except I'm terrible with the contact. You've just encouraged me to make a constant effort. I really hope your grandma gets better and that she accepts more help. You're in my thoughts. *hugs*
