It seemed lately that Jennifer had more patients than not who weren't thrilled, or were at the very least anxious, about being pregnant or being a mom, and Jennifer could certainly understand that. She didn't want to be in that situation herself, which was why Ronon was involved in the male birth control project, and even now that they were married, that wasn't going to change.
Jennifer's manner was completely professional when she greeted Jill. "Hey, Jill," she said. "Come on in and have a seat." She noted the hand-wringing and the quick breathing and felt bad for the news she was about to give her.
"Hey," she replied, doing her best to at least try to appear calm. It was difficult to hide her anxiety from most doctors, especially at a time like this, when she felt like she was about to shake apart from nerves. Still, she managed to give Jennifer a faint smile as she followed her into the clinic and quietly sat down.
Now, more than ever, it was difficult not to think about all the people who had disappeared. Just another reason she'd never wanted to have a child on the island.
Jennifer sat down behind the desk and pulled Jill's medical records up on the clinic laptop. It wasn't like she hadn't checked the test first thing when she got here, but it was kind of the habit of things.
It was always best to come right out with this kind of news. She folded her hands in front of her on the desk and put on her best impartial-doctor face. "Your test turned out positive this morning," she told her gently. "You're pregnant."
That was exactly the news Jill hadn't wanted to hear, although she'd steeled herself to hear it anyway. Even so, having Jennifer say it, having Jennifer make it real was a little much and Jill frowned, reaching up with one hand to rub her forehead.
"Shit," she muttered finally, because there really wasn't much else she could think to say. Having a family had never been her plan to begin with, but especially not on the island. "These tests are... fairly accurate, right?" she asked, just to be sure. "There's no way it's a false positive?"
