Jill vs the Aphids: Round 2

I took a pair of pruning shears and lopped off all the overhanging branches within reach and all the suckers sprouting from the base of the trees in an attempt to reduce the places for the aphids to breed.  Then I sprayed everything down with pyrethrum again.   The aphids seem to particularly like my nasturtiums which is odd because I've heard that ( Read more... )

I don't know about lavender or geraniums, but I head nasturtiums ("nasty rinums", as I used to say when I was little) were more of a "sacrificial" plant that any pests eat in favour of other plants? My parents grew them around their plot of runner beans, and when they had a plague of caterpillars one year, the little things ate the everloving f'ck out of the nasturtiums, but left the beans alone.

I agree with you that aphids are a real pain in the rear, though. :P
