Today I got a very scathing email from a former instructor of mine at the university after requesting a meeting with him in regards to past work-related issues.  I've worked for him in the past summer and he's someone I really respected and looked up to, and whom I originally planned to have as my graduate essay supervisor because I was interested ( Read more... )

You wouldn't believe how tempting it was to fire off an email or storm down to his office to demand to know who the hell pissed in his cereal yesterday. >:(

Damn, I think I remember you posting something about that research a while ago. It really sucks that your professor's turned on you like that. I'm sorry that happened to you. :(

You probably should save that email.

^ This.

Why did he do such a 180 on you? :( Sounds almost like he's just used you, to do all the hard work so he can get all the benefit from it.

Couldn't you appeal, or something, so you can at least use the data?

Oh believe me I have. I've made an appointement with my program advisor for early tomorrow and I'm going to bring the issue to him. Not so much for revenge but because money is an issue too - I haven't been paid for my last month of work because it extend past the date the official contract ended. And while it's not directly his fault, chances are likely that instead of going through the university financial office to get my last pay check he'll have to pay me out from the grant money directly. Considering he just said a big 'fuck you' to my problems, I don't see that happening without some sort of outside intervention.

The issue is that I've been trying to set up a meeting with him for most of the summer and apparently he's pissed off because he set up a meeting and I didn't show up - which would be fair IF I actually got any notification of when/where this meeting was supposed to take place.

So after hearing nothing from him all summer long, I emailed him again yesterday thinking that it'd be easier to set up a meeting with classes started. And then I got the above-mentioned email in reply. I think I spent a good ten minutes staring at the screen is disbelief. >:(
