Okay, so I proposed this to kyo_waru and didn't give her much choice in the matter, but I thought it might be worth throwing out there to any other bibliophiles who want to play. I know lyzzle pimped something similar a while back and I never got around to participating, though I wanted too ( Read more... )

Going to cheat a little and link you to my rec list for the Herding Cats project (which is probably what lyzzle tried to get you into). Though I rec Christopher Chant too. Love that book. My favorite of the Chrestomanci series.

Herding cats, that was probably the one. Dang. Oh well!

I've read Hitchhiker and Charlie Bone (...I think?), so I'm taking Lamb, Princess Diaries, Transall, Monstrous Regiment and So you want to be a Wizard. Thanks for playing! XD

I think it's still open to join pretty much until the "due" date, if you are interested in a lot of book recs. I've found some really great stuff.

I only have one right now, but the book I recommend whenever the hell I can is Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, OH GOD READ IT. <3 I don't know what I could say about it that would give you an accurate feel for it, but just... read it. Seriously. It's so good MAN.

Oh. AND! Stephen King books, I love him. Check him out. His bigger tooks tend to be the best ones, I would recommend The Stand and Hearts in Atlantis, and maaaybe IT which I love but don't know if it's everyone's cup of tea. XD Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None/Ten Little Indians is great as well, as are any of her Hercule Poirot novels.

1) Anything by David Almond, but especially Kit's Wilderness. Trippy shit. I also really like Skellig.

2) Enchanter's Glass by *checks* Susan Whitcher. I've been meaning to reread this for a while now. It's got one of the more original teen fantasy plots I've encountered. (Hopefully it's as good as I remember it being from like age 13.)

3) King Dork by Frank Portman. Because I am a giant sucker for books about awkward teenagers. This book really makes me want to start a band. .__.

4) The Chronicles of Prydain, starting with The Book of Three (contrary to popular belief, The Black Cauldron is actually the second book). Lloyd Alexander. You may have read these already but I think they're pretty cool, so.

5) The Magical Kingdom of Landover series, starting with Magical Kingdom for Sale: Sold! While there is no love lost between me and the Shannara series, this is Terry Brooks that I can get down with. Five books total.

On your list, I've read Dogsbody (twice) and I want to read that Totally Joe book every time you mention it, augh.

I'm going to glance pointedly at my aforementioned rec list for Herding Cats. And also, for those who like books about computer geek teenagers showing the government not to fuck with them, I recommend Cory Doctorow's Little Brother, available for download in its entirety (and in all legality, because Mr. Doctorow rocks hardcore) HERE.

...Yeah, that's... all I can think of at the moment. If you want, I can reduce my Herding Cats list to my absolute faves?

Hey! I forgot to do this, didn't I?!

1. Idlewild... I know I already rec'd this but did I happen to mention that its a trilogy? No? Ha... about that... Its a trilogy! *ducks+covers* The next two books(Edenborn and Everfree) are definitely worth reading if you like the first but IMO are not as good as the first.

2. Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. I actually just read this recently and liked it in a screwed up kind of way.

3. Angels & Demons by Dan Brown. I had more fun reading this than almost anything I've ever read. Its very 'mile a minute' once it gets rolling and I couldn't put it down. I actually ended up finishing it in less than a day(which is lightning fast for me).

4. The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Can't say too much about this except that its a good read.

5. Liquor by Poppy Z. Brite. I just grabbed this off the shelf cause I knew of the author from a horror novel that she wrote(which I'm not even gonna tell you the name of cause it was so horrifying I couldn't even finish it) All in all, this is a good, quick book. You'll ( ... )
