The Doctor hit the console’s panel more aggressively than he would normally. The Tardis shook her insides in warning. He could be angry all he wanted, it wasn’t her fault.

He slumped down on his chair, his mouth set in a pout. It was stupid to be jealous of himself, he knew this. But…how could she kiss the future him so easily? The Doctor saw ( Read more... )

There are so many theories on this episode. Ten didnt think, he was doing what comes naturally, stepping in to save Reinette. He didn't kiss her, she kissed him and got inside his head accidently but it still remains that he more of less told Rose that he loves her in the episode before and then he's bloody boasting about snogging Reinette. Hes being cowardly and running away from his feelings. Yes he was eagar to get back when he knew there was a way but damn him he hurt Rose and he damn well knew it. Nine would not have done that. If he went back for Reinette I am sure he would have taken Rose with him. Would he have taken Mickey too I dont know but he definitely would have not left Rose behind. Okaaaay deep breath, that all came out so much rantier than expected but I too have issues with this episode despite its beautiful music and costumes etc Ten was a prat.

By all means, rant away! Heaven knows I do each time I think about this episode. And it's stretched to include School Reunion and Rise of the Cybermen. GitF is such a beautiful episode with it's idea (sans Doctor), monsters and setting but it doesn't erase what Ten is doing! You're right, he pretty much told Rose he loves her in the episode previous and in this one it's like he's trying to take it all back. However, it's worse because he's pretending he never almost-said that in the first place!

So many theories try to make up for what Ten did (I do it too!) but nothing hides the fact that he did what he did. In the post-GitF story I'm working on, I've set up a theory I've heard inklings of before, but maybe I should go about it a different way - I don't know. Either way, in that story there is no escaping what he's done.

Wow, I've ranted too. Damn episode. Idiot Ten. Grrr...
