Scans: Trinity 18

*cracks knuckles* All right. Here's where things get awesome.

I'm a sucker for dystopian alternate realities, so this was so much fun. Sadly, "A world with no Superman or Batman" is...not going to get a lot of fic from me. And yet, I crave fic set in this world.

Specifically, Dick/Roy shippers should be all over this AU.

To sum up a few of the ( Read more... )

"One was blunt darkness...the other was light and...happy."

"One made bad people scared. The other made good people hope."

And all the rest of Charlie's speech? All summing up Batman & Robin in a nutshell.

Hmm, Zucco must have fooled Dick into believing someone else was his parents' murderer. I can't see Dick signing on with his parents' killers!

I wrote a long set of observations on this issue here if anyone's interested. :)

I'm eager to see how they show Superman and Wonder Woman's effect on the world next. :)

I assume so, yeah. Or maybe there's a chance he's been working with him in the long-term hope of killing him and taking his place? Dick as a mob boss would be pretty awesome, lol.

Yeah, I'll be curious to see what's up in Metropolis. It's probably bad for Jimmy--his life is never improved by being Supermanless, that's for sure.

Dick could charm everyone as a mob boss! ;)

But I can buy him joining up in order to kill Zucco. Biding his time, waiting years, etc. His rage was never given a proper focus as it would have with Bruce.

LOL! Poor Jimmy! :)

OTOH, he may be some highly successful type. Fashion photographer? ;)

So m'darling Jen (totally off topic here). Have you heard about 'The Graysons'? A show possibly for the CW for 2009?

It's mentioned on my comic blog.

Back on topic; a brightly lit Gotham where it's the main streets that get patrolled and not the side alleys is seriously creeping me out. That's not 'my' City - as in my fictional home :)

And it says something disturbing that Speedy obviously got over his heroine addiction but it's a world where there can be 'uptown yuppie cokeheads'. That says something to me more than anything else. It's as if Ollie gives a damn about the people he knows and likes, but everything else? Not so much. Whereas with the Bat, if something got close enough to trouble those near to him it meant things were seriously effed up and Gotham dealt with a Bat-crackdown.

I have heard this "The Graysons" mentioned. Considering they're unlikely to put Bruce in it due to Nolan's stranglehold on the franchise, it seems a ludicrous concept! How old are they going to let the kid get without getting in short pants?! And he has to be at least 15 or so at the beginning, as I assume they'll want to have love interests right away... it could be fascinating. A fascinating trainwreck, lol.

I don't think that's something essential to Ollie here--I mean, I hope not. I'm kind of wrestling with Ollie the most--I can buy Dick being villainous without Bruce in his life, and Lois being hard and cynical without Superman, but Ollie has never seemed really...inspired by the Trinity, particularly ( ... )

I shall attempt to provide any and all information about the hotter characters in the AU in an attempt to wheedle fic from people!

Aaaaaahhhh! That gorgeous Neal Adams art! Those pics really stand out so distinctively, it hits you like a lightning bolt!
Now this is a style that is dynamic and exciting and larger than life, in short: how comic art should be. This photorealistic stuff à la Alex Ross that everybody seems to love so much is just an eyesore in comparison.

Btw, did you see the latest RIP cover by Ross? What is that supposed to be showing? The neighbors dressed up and doing the Batusi? Embarassing.

The art is really nice here, isn't it? Very dynamic and...well, pretty too.

Yeah, that cover was rather...yeah. Kind of matched the tone inside to me. Silver Age insanity mixed with bleak realism = really, really strange.

Shiny!Gotham is ... wrong. Just ... very, very wrong. That's not my Black Lady, dammit! That's not the Gotham I fell in love with!

*pants*

Aside from that ... Ragman and Tatters are actually really cool. It ... I don't know, it appeals to the part of me that always loved and suspected the jesters of fantasy fiction. The honourable jester was a name of mine, before icarus. These two just ... remind me of that.

And poor guy. Rock and a hard place. If the world was the other way, it'd be better, but on the other hand ... you'd be dead.

My friend, that's called getting seriously screwed by Fate. Bastard that he is.

Oh. And Arthur seriously rocks!

I knoooow! The horror! The horror!

I know, I find them very intriguing here. Just the whole image of being...cast-offs in a shining world, the bits and ends that don't fit, you know? The jesters that mock the king to his face. I'll be curious to see how they interact with Ollie in this Gotham.

Arthur rocks very hard here! One review I read of it notes that Arthur and J'onn are both technically dead at the moment in Earth-1, and that it might be important at some point...if this is a way to get them back, I'm all for it.

Exactly! It's a role that always fascinated me, and I do hope these two are given a little room to play!
