Thinky Thoughts...

Jun 07, 2008 23:45

So I've been pondering co-writing and all the various shades of co-writing recently.

I say I don't co-write often, but that's not exactly true.  I don't co-write often in the sense of "I write some and the other person writes some."  It's more complicated than that, and I don't always give credit to the extent it's due, I don't think.  This post ( Read more... )

You know, I am SO blessed to have the same sort of person in van_el that you do with Damo. It saves so much time! I feel like I can simply write, and not worry so much about plot holes and such.

Trinity comes out next week, yes? *twirls*

It's an incredible gift, really, and makes it possible to do a lot more than I could do on my own. I can't even count how many times I've been stuck and probably wouldn't be able to finish the story without help...

And Trinity started this week! The first issue looks very promising...let's hope they can follow through!

LOL, I'm pretty sure Kara being Kal's mother/caretaker was actually your idea! ...and then I stole it for the mafia!AU! X) I steal ideas from you constantly, the problem is it takes me forever to write them.. hrmm... but I think it's the most enjoyable part of the process, bouncing them off you and just having them escalate until they turn into T-Rex speech X)

Your cowrites are always different and special! I love what it shows of the process and the people involved, how the two mindsets combine. Especially since Dan and Rai have such awesome ideas!

Really? I'm pretty certain it was yours originally! (As was Bruce belonging to her in the story that I still have yet to find a name for, darn it! "Home" is the best I can do so far!)

I love bouncing ideas around. I'd probably keep doing it even if I didn't write any more! *bounces ideas at ferret*

..hrmmm... I can't remember, to be honest! I think at least one of those premises was yours, since I had Zor-El owning Bruce and being an all around jackass, though Kara was part of the rebellion... no, wait! Wasn't Bruce Jason's in mine? yeah, and then he's 'acquired' by Zor-El! so that must be yours! ...I am totally confused, lol. Eh, well, not like it matters!

Home sounds.. like it needs expanding on! Long Way Home? ...*remembers ATB song and dances* uhm, I am no good at that! Wombat-poking time!

I need to confer with you about Jaevel and Clark's part in it! I know what Bruce is doing, but.. I think Clark has another motivation that I can't quite grasp...

I probably would have stopped writing ages ago without someone around willing to talk me through rough spots and figure out why I was stuck. I'd have just hit the wall and given up. It's incredibly valuable! I'm really glad you've got people like that as well (it's also just more fun that way!)

We don't have beta in Japanese fandom, to tell the truth. (At least I've never seen it.) So I didn't know what "beta" is when I started reading Western fanfics. :)
I think it's really good.

As for the plots, I do know myself can't write such wonderful stories even in my native language. So if you didn't pick those bunnies up into your basket they would be merely bunnies hopping in my head forever.
I'm indeed a lucky person. *sighs happily*
I always appreciate you! *hugs*

That's really interesting! It sort of reflects that feeling that Japanese fandom focuses more on personal satisfaction and Western fandom more on...technical skill or craft? Although of course there's some of both in both places. :)

It would be better for an idea to be a bunny forever than take form and not be right! So I always worry a lot about making your bunny ideas into ugly mutant bunnies by mistake, lol. That's why I'm always glad when you can point out things that might be good to add or change...

*hugs* I'm soooo lucky!

Plot Bunnies slvrbld747 June 24 2008, 18:34:03 UTC
Hi,
I'm relatively new in this fandom, grins, 4 weeks and counting. I don't have a lot of background in superheroes but I'm a slasher from way back. I had a fairly involved plot bunny hop up and bite me. Sheaks head, it was insistent. I was reading your commentary here and I was wondering if you would want to take a look at it. Honestly the thing looks like a mini-outline but I don't have a clue for this fandom and am not tempted to try and write. I am however searching for a home for it, want a look? -Slvrbld747

I'd love to give it a look, although I'm likely to focus my energies on trying to convince you to write it up, since I love to tempt new writers. :) There are only a few character pitfalls and "canon" is pretty much entirely optional, so it's a fun fandom to play around in!

Send it along to daeriel at gmail dot com and we'll see what we can do!
