I saw The Lion King in theaters last night. It was kind of weirdly surreal and awesome. We went to a later show, so every single person in that audience were college age kids or older. There were some drunk annoying people who thought it’d be HILARIOUS to recite the movie back and forth to each other VERY LOUDLY. Cool guy, you’re not impressing ( Read more... )

Argh, I think I'm just going to have to go and see it myself. I own it on VHS, but that's not like watching it on a big screen.

Those pencil tests are... insane. They are so good they are insane.

This is the fourth time I've seen it in theaters. Twice in 1994, once when it came out on IMAX (OMG, you could see how dirty the inking was! There were gaps and and and... IT WAS AWESOME.) and last night.

And I'm purchasing it next Tuesday on BluRay.

They're Andreas Deja! OF COURSE THEY'RE INSANE.

UGH SCAR PENCIL TESTS, GET INTO MY PANTS.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and assume you meant this one? Yeah... when I see pencil tests, I get a little... excited.

YESSSSSSSSSSSS. i went and saw lion king a week or so ago with my sister. IT WAS AMAZING. since then we have been plaing the sega genesis lion king game ALL THE TIME. it is so difficult yet so amazing.

that pencil test is, indeed, sex. 100%

btw, never, NEVER have i heard so many people in a theater crying as when mufasa dies, when my sister and i went to see the reissue. i mean, not even close. and the last movie i went to see before this was the freaking DEATHLY HALLOWS.

I PLAYED THAT GAME ALL NIGHT ONE NIGHT WITH MY BFF and we NEVER beat it.

Yessss. And now I'm hunting down others on Youtube.

I didn't hear any sniffles in our theater, but at least the rowdiness died down during that part. I think what always gets me isn't when Mufasa actually dies, it's Simba's reaction to it.

IT IS INSANELY HARD YOU HAAAAAVE TO PLAY IT MORE THAN JUST ONE NIGHT OKAY

I didn't hear any sniffles in our theater,

the only explanation is that 85% of the viewers had already gone to see the reissue 8 times and were no out of tears.

Sadly, they never tend to show TLK in the theaters here, so I have never had the opportunity to see it on the big screen (is the 3D version only a US release? I WOULD), but I do pop in the DVD from time to time and amazingly, it never gets old.

The only thing that changed back from when I used to watch it as a kid is that the scenes like "Mufasa shows Simba the stars" and "You said you'd always be there for me... but you're not" get to me even MORE than Mufasa's death now. Whenever those come up, I'm an inconsolable mess every. single. time. Interesting how our perception changes as we grow up.

Also, I've never owned a more awesome Sega game than TLK. I must have finished it about a million times before I moved on, and then kept relapsing every once in a while. Good times!
