I’ve now finally seen all the animated films nominated for Oscars this year. Since Toy Story 3 is nominated for Best Picture as well, it’s a 99.9% probability that it’ll win Best Animated. Which is a shame because although I enjoyed Toy Story 3, I thought How To Train Your Dragon was a stronger movie.

Anyway, The Illusionist. The thing that I ( Read more... )

I want to see this sooooooooo bad. I wonder if it's even a theatre near me anymore. I was back home when it was in Los Angeles and nothing seems to stick around here.

I agree about Dragon vs Toy Story. I love, love, love both. Both are beyond excellent. I think Dragon had a very special unique charm. Btw, I want that movie soooooo much, but do you think I've been able to find it since Christmas? It sold out everywhere!

It was just released in Boston this weekend, so... maybe? Look around. It's pretty damn good.

Yes, to all of this. I mean, really, all three movies are worthy of the category, but HTTYD resonated with me a little more.

I have to disagree about Toy Story 3 vs. How to Train Your Dragon. Toy Story 3 was a near perfect film plot-wise and the gorgeous animation IMO (I watched it about a bajillion times while sick in bed, lol). How to Train Your Dragon was good, but it didn't make me cry and TS3 really made me weep like a baby. More than once.

Hey, to each their own. I enjoyed Toy Story 3 a lot, don't get me wrong. But like I said above, HTTYD just personally resonated with me a bit more this time. I loved the characters, the story, the design, the music, everything, whereas for Toy Story, I'm already familiar with that universe.

Besides, it's not like I'll be super upset during Best Animated, because all three movies are worthy of being in there. I'll just not be surprised if Toy Story wins.

Ditto! I wonder if this is showing any were in Toronto... (it totally is.)

I'm going to have to really think on the Toy Story 3 vs. HTTYD debate. It would be really nice if Dreamworks was rewarded for making something that *wasn't* a sequel, though of course they're making one. Sigh.

They do have some interesting things coming up though! I like the one about the vampire and werewolf who's truck breaks down in the middle of nowhere, so they get jobs at a diner that's a frequent target of zombie attacks. :D
