One down, one to go.

Ack! I ended up going to the Franklin Zoo yesterday to draw animals, then watched Gone With the Wind for the first time. And since that is a long ass movie, I didn't get a chance to not only watch new Who, but write my thoughts down about the Ashes to Ashes finale. Since, you know, everyone cares what I say. *rollyeyes*

HERE WE GO:

Spoilers for Ashes to Ashes. Also for Life on Mars )

I think Gene was continuing his duty and knows who he is now, and I think he's gonna be a bit more mature at least if his slightly less cocky way of delivering that line is any indication. I loved that the last words he ever spoke in the series are also the same as the first words he ever spoke in the series. I love me a cycle.

This this this aaaaaaaand this
I'm not sure he forgot at that moment, I like to think he'd forgotten what he was there to do having been there for so long, then Alex came along to help him remember and do the job he was there to do. Shaz wanted to be taken seriously, Chris wanted the confidence to make his own choices, and Ray wanted approval from someone he admired. Alex was "brought here for a reason" and she was the one who in the end helped Gene raise them up to that point (their little Bowie flashes) which to me represented they were ready to move on. So no, I don't think he forgot. I think Alex played a more significant role than simply helping out Chris, Shaz, and Ray. I think she was there to remind Gene of his place and his duties. He might forget again, but it seems like it's a slow process. idk.

I think the clown theory has managed to miraculously escape me, though Gene's hand being the one who holds little Alex's I did stumble upon. After that I retreated to f-list never to be seen in communities again, lol.

YES. I stopped reading everything on the A2A comm exactly because of that. People are TOO SMART.

How ironic is it that since the very beginning The Railway Arms forum's address has been domeofstars.com?

Wow, really? Way to go predicting, you guys!

THAT SCENE AROUND THE END WITH GENE PUNCHING KEATS AND THEN THE G/A KISS BASICALLY SUMMED UP WHAT WE WANTED TO HAPPEN THIS SEASON Y/Y?

Y/Y!!!!!!!

How did Sam end up "finding the truth"? He said it was best Gene didn't know... was it mentioned?

Well, they didn't/couldn't/wouldn't explain everything, but it that doesn't really bother me since that just felt like more on the LoM-side of things, you know? I mean, obviously, it took place between the shows, but I didn't feel like it was necessary to explain it. I don't know.

As soon as it hit me that they were all dead I burst into tears. I am glad I was watching alone because I was not expecting such an emotional reaction. I mean I just started to sob. Then when Alex did not want to leave Gene I was a crying mess all over again.

I cried for Molly too because I know Alex grew up without a mum and having been through that myself I would HATE for my daughter to suffer the same fate I did so when she was worried about Molly I cried. When Shaz asked to see her mum I cried. When it showed how each of them died I cried. Lol My eyes were so puffy by the end of the episode.

Like you said the music during this episode was fantastic. Soft Cell, Phill Collins, Bowie - several times, Jackson etc. Loved it all.

I am so said it is all over. No more Bolly Knickers and Gene Genie. :(

I read that someone said that one of the producers or something said that in a few weeks Gene would have forgotten about what happened outside the pub :( Not sure if he will remember who he is/his purpose.

I was mostly satisfied, except, except: WHAT WAS JIM?
During the car ride back from finding Gene's shallow grave, when he wanted to listen to the same song again and again, and when he started making such a bizarre fuss in the office throwing things around, I thought the point was going to be that he was really a child.
Then the bit with the lift seemed to telegraph that he was OOOOOH THE DEVIL. Or one of the Devil's Little Helpers. Which seemed awfully crude and Dean Koontzy.
Then towards the end he was walking like a hunchback and hissing and left with a Nelson Muntz-esque taunt and IDKWTF.
I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF HE REALLY HAD TWO 'A' LEVELS ANY MORE.
Wrap-up on Gene was brilliant. The use of 'In the Air Tonight,' 'Beat It,' 'Chariots of Fire' and 'Heroes' was wonderful, and the Dixon of Dock Green sign-off left me beaming.
Since Chris said 'fab' when Shaz professed her undying love, let's just assume that he's from the 60s!
Oh, and during the gunfight I squealed indignantly 'They've wounded the Quattro!'
